Update 8/20/19: A Mortal Kombat 11 DLC leak has revealed the two unannounced Kombat Pack characters. Original story follows.

At the end of May, NetherRealm Studios announced that Nightwolf, Sindel, and Spawn would all be joining Shang Tsung as Mortal Kombat 11 DLC fighters. While this has given fans a lot to look forward to, there are still two MK11 DLC characters that have yet to be officially announced. However, it now seems likely that the names of these two mystery Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack characters were revealed before the game was even released.

Back in April, fans found the names of nine characters that are not in the base Mortal Kombat 11 roster within the game files. One of the names that was found was Shang Tsung's, a Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character that was revealed prior to this fan-made discovery. Indeed, the appearance of Tsung's name suggested that the other eight listed characters might also be planned for post-launch release.

The characters that were named alongside Shang Tsung in this datamine were as follows:

  • Ash
  • Fujin
  • Joker
  • Nightwolf
  • Sheeva
  • Sindel
  • Spawn
  • Terminator

Now, more than three months later, three of these characters have been confirmed as MK11 DLC fighters, lending some credence to the accuracy of the datamine. As such, it seems very possible that two of the other characters from this list are intended to be the remaining fighters in the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack, and there is some information available to fuel speculations about which ones they might be.

For instance, in June, fans encountered something interesting going on with Google ads. Namely, ads that listed both the Terminator and The Evil Dead's Ash Williams as MK11 DLC characters began to appear when performing Google searches. While this could have simply been an anomaly, it certainly seems to point to the Terminator and Ash Williams being the two unannounced MK11 Kombat Pack characters.

Additionally, prior to the discovery of these Google ads, some fans already believe that these two characters had been teased by the Mortal Kombat 11 trailer that announced Nightwolf, Sindel, and Spawn. As that trailer comes to a close, it is indicated that there are "two more guests to be revealed." This is followed by the sound of a chainsaw, a tool that is most certainly associated with Ash Williams, and some orchestral beats that are evocative of the Terminator 2: Judgement Day theme.

Furthermore, when referring to fighting game DLC characters, the word "guest" typical points to fighters that are outside of the franchise. This immediately eliminates Fujin and Sheeva from the conversation and makes it even more likely that the Terminator and Ash Williams are the two mystery Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters.

To note, Bruce Campbell, the actor who portrays Ash Williams in movies like The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness, has denied his involvement with Mortal Kombat 11. That said, this denial could simply be an attempt to throw fans off the scent, as was done when actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa indicated that he would not be assuming the role of Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 11. Tagawa's statement was proven false quite promptly, with the official announcement of Shang Tsung in MK11, and that may occur again with Campbell and Ash.

While this all remains speculative at this point, and should be taken as such, fans may not have to wait much longer to see the Terminator and Ash officially announced, as a Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack trailer is scheduled for release later this month. While not a certainty, it does seem possible that this trailer will finally reveal the two mystery Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters, putting to rest any need for speculation.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version in development.
