Mortal Kombat 11 game director Ed Boon has been posting some cryptic tweets recently, with some fans thinking that he is teasing a new DLC character for the popular fighting game. Boon has a long history of trolling Mortal Kombat fans online, though, and so it's possible that he's just having fun with his audience. However, some fans think they've deciphered Boon's tweets and figured out the identity of the DLC character he is teasing.

So far, Ed Boon has posted three separate clues to Twitter that are supposed to be teasing something, and fans like Tubby_Dingus think they've figured it out. The first clue Boon tweeted out was "Look up to the sky and see," whereas the second clue included the year "1984." The third clue, tweeted on September 24, said "Seriously #6." Some have come to the conclusion that "Look up to the sky and see" is a reference to rain, whereas the second and third clues are references to Purple Rain, Prince's sixth album, which released in 1984.

The conclusion, then, that some fans have reached is that the next Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character is none other than Rain. This would make sense, especially since Rain is known for his purple attire and was originally named for the Prince song. But again, we must stress that this could just be Boon teasing Mortal Kombat 11 fans and there are no real concrete plans to add Rain to the game.

If Mortal Kombat 11 is adding Rain as DLC, it seems to contradict one of the big recent MK11 leaks that was seemingly corroborated by datamining efforts. For the uninitiated, Mortal Kombat 11 dataminers have found voice files for the actors from the Mortal Kombat 1995 movie, which matched up with a previous leak that said the movie versions of the characters would be coming to the game, alongside six new DLC fighters.

The DLC fighters in that leak were said to be Michael Myers from Halloween, Mileena, Harley Quinn, Sektor, Smoke, and Takeda. So if fans have indeed accurately deciphered Boon's clues and Rain is coming to Mortal Kombat 11 as DLC, it potentially disproves the previous leak that named these characters.

Whatever the case may be, here's hoping Boon has some more concrete information to share sooner rather than later. Until any official announcements are made, though, all Mortal Kombat 11 fans can do is speculate about potential MK11 DLC characters that may come to the popular fighting game in the future.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
