It’s been an eventful week for Mortal Kombat 11. November 17th brought the game to the latest generation of consoles with the release of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition, a new compilation that features the base game, its Aftermath story expansion, and all previously released DLC. This updated version also includes the new Kombat Pack 2, which adds fan favorites Mileena and Rain, as well as the latest guest fighter: Sylvester Stallone’s classic character Rambo.

With its latest batch of DLC, Mortal Kombat 11 has now become an 80s action fan’s dream come true. Along with the addition of Rambo, the jam-packed roster also includes both The Terminator and RoboCop, bringing together some of the action genre’s biggest icons. While other guest characters like Spawn and The Joker are fun, focusing on action films in future DLC could make Mortal Kombat 11 a truly unique genre crossover. Here are just a few additions that NetherRealm Studios could incorporate into the game next.

Judge Dredd

Karl Urban as Judge Dredd

While RoboCop is arguably the definitive satirical, futuristic crime stopper/violent murderer, Judge Dredd certainly gives him a run for his money. Although the original 1995 adaptation of Judge Dredd was also played by Sylvester Stallone, a new adaptation starring Karl Urban was released in 2012, making his take easily fit alongside Rambo. Judge Dredd’s signature Lawbreaker weapon includes multiple types of ammo, such as armor piercing rounds, heat seeking bullets, and explosives. He’d work perfectly alongside other gunslingers like The Terminator and Erron Black, while having enough key differences to set him apart.

John Wick series

Keanu Reeves as John Wick

He might be most famous for his role as Neo in The Matrix films, but Keanu Reeve’s retired hitman is one of the most popular characters in modern action movies. John Wick seems to be capable of every type of fighting imaginable, from gun fu to hand-to-hand combat. Whether he’s shooting his enemies or breaking their bones, Wick is fast and brutal, making him a natural fit for the franchise. It’s easy to imagine the grotesque Fatal Blows he could inflict and how stylish his Fatalities would be.

Mad Max: Fury Road

She’s not the lead character of the Mad Max films, but Charlize Theron’s acclaimed action heroine Imperator Furiosa is the right pick to represent the series. Furiosa is at her best behind the wheel, but she’s still a rage-filled fighter that packs a nasty punch. Her moveset could be focused on close combat with the addition of her gun, and her Fatality could utilize her Rig vehicle from Mad Max: Fury Road.

Machete Series

danny trejo machete

Danny Trejo’s Machete might be a bit lesser known pick, but his films are gory, campy, and over the top –– a perfect fit for Mortal Kombat. He more than lives up to his name, slicing and dicing anyone who crosses his path with ease. Machete is ruthless and dispatches baddies in creative ways (like using their intestines as rope), giving NetherRealm plenty of creative wiggle room with his moveset. Danny Trejo himself is no stranger to gaming, so getting him to reprise his role might not be so difficult.

Kill Bill

Uma Thurman in Kill Bill

For some, Beatrix Kiddo (also known as The Bride) is the definitive Quentin Tarantino character. Played by Uma Thurman in the Kill Bill saga, Beatrix is a resilient warrior with lightning fast reflexes. She’s skilled in every form of combat, but her most famous fight scene in Kill Bill Vol. 1 shows off her talent with a sword against a huge swarm of henchmen. Beatrix’s sword could be the crux of her gameplay, while her Fatal Blows and Fatalities could take advantage of her martial arts skills and pay homage to the infamous eye plucking scene in Vol. 2.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is available now for PC, Stadia, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
