Mortal Kombat 11 is going strong, and fans are pining for a new DLC character. Beyond the characters known for the first Kombat Pack, the most popular choice on the wish list of many fans is a DC superhero. Many wish for either Superman or Batman, the two most popular DC superheroes, but there are a host of other heroes which would fit great in Mortal Kombat 11.
For those that don't know, Mortal Kombat 11 boasts an impressive lineup of DLC characters, with many looking forward to what comes after. The game's first DLC pack contains six new characters: Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Terminator, Sindel, Joker, and Spawn will be the first six characters to join the Mortal Kombat tournament. The inclusion of The Joker and NetherRealm Studio's involvement in the creation of the Injustice games sparked fans to action, asking director Ed Boon to add Superman or Batman to the roster. This idea was shot down rather bluntly when Ed Boon said Superman and Batman will never be added to Mortal Kombat 11.
Upon further inspection, it seems obvious that he would say no to this. For starters, both Batman and Superman's most recognizable trait is their refusal to kill anyone. Batman has had the chance to kill The Joker several times yet he never does, and the same can be said about Superman and his recurring villains like Lex Luthor. In a game like Mortal Kombat, where fatalities are so important to players, these two just wouldn't fit in. It's hard to imagine Batman or Superman brutally murdering any of the other Mortal Kombat characters, even the more monstrous ones.
Taking this a step further, it's even harder to imagine any of the Mortal Kombat characters brutally murdering Superman. Even looking past his incredible invulnerability to most normal weapons, it seems likely that DC would never allow for their most iconic character to be subjected to such a savage fate. Though DC comic characters are no strangers to death, death is usually utilized to push the story further with emotional consequences or shocking reactions. The deaths in Mortal Kombat are there simply for their brutality, and sometimes, they are even so gory that it's darkly humorous.
The Joker has no quarrel with killing, so he fits here well. While it would be easy to pick another DC villain to join the cast, there are numerous other heroes which could be considered. When selecting a hero, it is important that they are strong enough to contend with the many supernatural threats in the Mortal Kombat universe, but not too overly powerful or outlandish that they would stick out like a sore thumb. Although heroes such as Aquaman, Shazam, or Green Arrow could work here, the most popular hero that fits this bill would be Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman is an Amazonian princess with heightened abilities granted to her by the gods. She utilizes a plethora of magical items and weapons to aid her in combat and has no quarrel with killing her enemies. Being the third of DC's three main iconic superheroes, Wonder Woman occupies a position which gives her the best of both worlds to an extent. Her Amazonian physiology and gifts granted to her from the gods make her more durable than the likes of Batman, but not so invincible (like Superman) as to make less supernatural characters like Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade be unable to harm her. She also possesses heightened intelligence and combat training similar to that of Batman, meaning she would be able to keep up with the skilled fighters in the Mortal Kombat universe.
Wonder Woman's arsenal of weapons and magical items also provide plenty of opportunity for interesting attacks and abilities. Her main weapon, the Sword of Athena, is said to be sharp enough to sever atoms. Sword slices would make up the majority of her basic attacks, and would likely be very prevalent in her fatalities. Wonder Woman also has magic bracers, forged from the remnants of Zeus's Aegis shield, which are capable of deflecting any attack. She would be more than capable of defending herself from the many foes she would inevitably fight, and some incarnations of Wonder woman even use these bracers as a weapon by discharging electricity from them or incapacitating opponents by slamming them together. Wonder Woman's last, most iconic magic item is her Lasso of Truth. This lasso is unbreakable and forces anyone caught inside of it to tell the exact truth. If Wonder Woman were to join Mortal Kombat 11, it's very likely that this lasso would be used for grabs and especially for her fatalities.
On the topic of fatalities being performed on her, Wonder Woman has died five times, Once as a result of being de-aged until she returned to the clay form she was created from (babality anyone?). As a character who often engages in fights with more deadly weapons and adversaries, suffering a fate like the many Mortal Kombat fatalities doesn't seem as far out for Wonder Woman as it does for other heroes, as this seems like a constant threat in her adventures.
Wonder Woman strikes the perfect balance of all the things needed to be a good aligned fighter in Mortal Kombat. She is not afraid to kill or to be killed, she has considerable strength, fighting prowess, and supernatural abilities, but she is still able to be killed. Her skill set and armaments provide more than enough to give her an interesting and unique moveset full of both offensive and defensive options. Of course, this is all just speculation. Whether a DC hero ever joins as a DLC character is entirely up to NetherRealm Studios, Warner Bros. Interactive, and DC Comics. Ultimately, 2020's Kombat Pack 2 ought to be announced soon, so time will tell if players will get the chance to put Wonder Woman's impressive skills to the test in Mortal Kombat 11.
