The build-up to the Mortal Kombat 11 release date was one characterized by numerous leaks. Not only did these leaks confirm the full list of Mortal Kombat 11 characters prior to NetherRealm Studios' official announcement, a DLC leak also appeared to reveal nine potential DLC characters. However, a new datamine suggests that this may not be the full extent of the post-launch content planned for the new fighting game.

As shared by Reddit user thethiny, the Mortal Kombat 11 game files purportedly contain reference to 19 unnamed DLC characters. These files were accessed simply by launching Cheat Engine with a copy of the Mortal Kombat 11 PC version running, and thethiny has provided image verification of their findings.

While some players are wondering if these DLC references may point to post-launch content aside from fighters, such as stages or skins, thethiny provides compelling evidence that suggests that they do indeed demarcate Mortal Kombat 11 characters. Specifically, the 19 DLC strings are listed immediately following the current roster, and they each reference "EXP," just as other character listings do.

The Redditor further addresses the question by indicating that skin listings in the game files include reference to "SKIN," and stage listings reference "BGND." Of course, all of this does not guarantee that the 19 DLC references will all ultimately materialize as playable characters, but it does seem to confirm that the references are at least in the proper format for that type of asset.

mortal kombat 11 dlc datamine

As previously mentioned, a Mortal Kombat 11 DLC leak from last week appeared to reveal nine of the game's post-launch characters, including the officially announced Shang Tsung. Thus, if what has now been discovered in the game files proves accurate, fans may have 10 more characters beyond that to look forward to.

That said, the number 19 is a bit of an oddity, as it can not be divided evenly across any number of Kombat Packs. That is, if there are to be three Kombat Packs, which players have found indication of in the game files, then there would be no way for 19 Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters to be released in any consistent quantity.

Shang Tsung may be considered for release separately from the Kombat Packs. Or, there could be another character that will be available individually. To note, Frost and Shao Khan are already accounted for in the game files. Whatever the case may be, if this discovery materializes, fans may just yet get Mileena, Rain, and more in future Mortal Kombat 11 DLC.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
