Teased recently by the game's director Ed Boon, it seemed the long-rumored next Mortal Kombat 11 DLC would finally be revealed later this week. The co-creator of the series wasn't shy about discussing the additional content on Twitter yesterday, telling fans to keep their eyes peeled for a huge update on the future of the fighting game.

Thanks to the official Mortal Kombat 11 Twitter account, NetherRealm has revealed exactly when this new announcement will be made, alongside a short teaser for the update. On October 8 at 8:00 a.m. CT, Mortal Kombat 11's next major DLC will be unveiled to the public.

The tease is short but has already caused rampant speculation online. Sporting the caption "they are koming," it sees a Tarkatan running from a pursuer through what appears to be a dense jungle before the footage cuts to the date and time of the reveal. The Mortal Kombat fanbase got to work immediately trying to decipher what the mysterious clip could be depicting, with many coming to the conclusion that the teaser could be hinting at the return of Mortal Kombat series veteran Mileena.

The top comment on the announcement as of this writing reminds viewers that Mileena's territory was the Kuatan Jungle, and that the Tarkatans betrayed her to follow Kotal Kahn and Kitana. However, this theory has divided the community, with many believing that Mileena will never come to the game after several remarks made by Boon himself. The alternate theory currently floating around comes from several recent leaks, with many claiming the tease refers to Mortal Kombat 11 adding Rambo.

If the theory is true, the iconic action hero will be another addition to a slate of movie characters in the Mortal Kombat 11 roster, able to tangle with the likes of The Terminator and RoboCop. The forest setting in the teaser would be fitting for Rambo, but ultimately, it remains to be seen if NetherRealm is looking to bring over another guest fighter.

While these two names seem the most likely to come from the announcement, a number of potential roster members have been rumored over the last few months. Evil Dead's protagonist Ash Williams' name has come up numerous times, while Mortal Kombat staples like Takeda and Stryker have been leaked in datamined files. There's also the chance that the tease is referring to a new fighter pass altogether, with the caption "they" suggesting multiple pursuers. For fans waiting impatiently to learn more, all will be revealed on October 8.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
