Mortal Kombat 11's upcoming Aftermath expansion is highly anticipated. Aftermath will introduce three new fighters to Mortal Kombat in Sheeva, Fujin, and RoboCop. It'll also feature a brand new story to experience, as well as new stages and cosmetics. The new expansion should broadly appeal to all Mortal Kombat fans, but one niche has its focus on a very specific matchup. Aftermath will finally allow for a modern video game showdown between RoboCop and the Terminator.

Capitalizing on the demand for a RoboCop vs. Terminator showdown, Mortal Kombat 11 developer NetherRealm Studios has put out two new gameplay trailers.  The two trailers both feature a fight between RoboCop and the Terminator. Both feature largely the same gameplay, but with very different conclusions.

The RoboCop and Terminator matchup isn't entirely new. It goes all the way back to 1992, at the height of both franchise's popularity. Comic book publisher Dark Horse put out a 4-issue crossover series named RoboCop Versus The Terminator, written by comic book legend Frank Miller and drawn by the iconic Walt Simonson. It's an action-packed story that's perfect for the 90s era.

The RoboCop Versus The Terminator comic was hot enough at the time to lead to its own video game, published by Virgin Interactive. The 2D run and gun was released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo, Sega Master System, and Game Gear. Unfortunately, the RoboCop Versus The Terminator game was very poorly reviewed. Mortal Kombat 11 will hope to rewrite the rivalry's video game history.

As the trailers show, both the Terminator and RoboCop have been lovingly recreated for Mortal Kombat 11. Their kits are full of actions and abilities that are throwback references to their respectful films. Though Terminator being more of a Genisys or Dark Fate reference instead of a Terminator 2 reference is likely to be met with disappointment. That was probably the only way to get the license, though.

Mortal Kombat 11 players won't have to wait long to recreate the RoboCop vs. Terminator matchup on their own. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, which includes RoboCop, releases on May 26. Terminator is sold separately, either on its own or as part of Mortal Kombat 11's Kombat Pack. For those wanting to get into Mortal Kombat 11 for the first time, a Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Kollection featuring both Aftermath and the Kombat Pack also launches May 26 digitally. A retail edition launches in June.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
