Since its initial tease, developer NetherRealm Studios have been incredibly forthcoming with its Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expansion. Not only has the free content or the friendships been revealed, but several brutalities, fatalities, and trailers focused on new characters like RoboCop have surfaced. Now, it seems that may be coming to an end in the most grandiose of ways.

The developer has not put out a launch trailer, which would suggest that while Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath doesn't release for 5 more days, the flow of trailers may. And it seems it ended on the most forthcoming of all. NOTE: this trailer (and article) does contain what some may consider to be spoilers, so turn back now if wanting to go in as fresh as possible.

The Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath launch trailer shows the interactions between several characters, helping create a more clear relationship between some. For example, it appears Sindel does fight her daughter at some point, thereby suggesting that Sindel is not getting retconned again. A huge battle also apparently takes place, which is reminiscent of the Armageddon storyline, and it's clear that Kronika is fighting to preserve her New Era once more.

Perhaps the most spoilery detail comes at the end. Much like the initial MK11 Aftermath reveal trailer, players see Kronika's Hourglass once more, although it is Shang Tsung wearing Kronika's Crown who is about to rewrite history. Then, out of a similar portal to what Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, and Fujin appeared out of, Fire God Liu Kang emerges alone. He then tells Shang Tsung to "cease before you doom us all."

In truth, it's not really too surprising to see Shang Tsung seemingly betraying his new allies, or at least that appears to be what's happening. It appears the final fight may be between Fire God Liu Kang and Shang Tsung empowered by Kronika's Crown, although it is indeed surprising that this much is shown. It'll be interesting to see how this resolves in Mortal Kombat 11, and luckily, the Aftermath Expansion is right around the corner.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath releases May 26, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
