The Mortal Kombat series never fails to provide a bevy of slick fighting game mechanics and a whole lot of gore. To celebrate Mortal Kombat 11 and its Aftermath Kollection DLC, the official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel released an After-Aftermath awards trailer on January 21 to show off the best and the bloodiest the game has to offer.
Mortal Kombat 11 has been out since 2019 and continues to get fresh content by the developer and fans. One of the latest fan mods for the game allows players to experience all the fighting action in first-person, something that hasn't been seen in the series. DLC packs have introduced many characters to the Mortal Kombat 11 roster including Rambo from the self-titled film series and Spawn from the comic series published by Image Comics. The After-Aftermath awards trailer celebrates all aspects of the game, from the most played characters or the one that gets pummeled the most.
Fans of Mortal Kombat 11 will probably not be surprised to see Mileena, the dual sai-wielding assassin, taking home the most awards. She grabbed Best Intro Animation, Most Gruesome Fatality, Fan Favorite Brutality, Most Satisfying Tower Ending, Most Badass Female Fighter, and Fan Favorite Character overall. Another highly requested added character, Rain, also raked in some awards, winning for Best Victory Animation, Fan Favorite Edenian, and Fan Favorite Male Character.
As for series staples, Scorpion and Sub-Zero were crowned the Most Used Characters in the game along with Noob Saibot. Scorpion and Sub-Zero also managed to win some awards for their skill sets, including The Mix-Up-Ologist (best move mix-ups in the game) for Sub-Zero and Button Mash Royalty for Scorpion. The two faces of the franchise continue to be popular choices for beating up opponents, but they also see representation outside of the games in fan art and some Mortal Kombat fan cosplay.
The awards aren't all about the characters though. Some of the more interesting facts from the After-Aftermath trailer include players putting 450 million hours into the game, almost 400 million towers completed, and apparently over 400 billion pints of blood have been spilled from all the gruesome deaths. The fatalities in the Mortal Kombat series have always been one of its most recognizable aspects, and players clearly go for the death blow more often than they spare their opponent, with over 870 million fatalities compared to about 80 million mercies.
Overall, the After-Aftermath awards trailer shows respect for fan favorites and proves just how addictive Mortal Kombat 11 can be. With series creator Ed Boon possibly hinting at more DLC and a new Mortal Kombat movie in the works, the Mortal Kombat series' future looks bright.
