The newest Morbius trailer officially arrived on Tuesday and the three-minute video showed that fans can expect a comic book movie that is going to be rooted in a horror movie-type trope than any superhero film before it. While there has been some confusion over whether the Sony Pictures project is part of the MCU or not, it certainly seems to be setting the stage for crossovers and a whole new direction should it be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since the first Morbius trailer hit last year, the question as to whether Sony is allowing the character to join the MCU has been out there. Even one of the film's stars, Tyrese Gibson, claimed it was in the same universe as The Avengers and Eternals. The new trailer seems to hint that the movie has ties to the MCU, showing an interaction between Spider-Man Homecoming's Vulture and Michael Morbius while also mentioning Venom towards the end of the clip.

Of course, for now, which cinematic universe the often-delayed but much anticipated Morbius movie is in, it appears to be trying to forge its own path thanks to much scarier visuals than comic-book movie fans are used to seeing. The trailer opens with a discussion about the movie's titular character surfacing on a cargo ship after being missing for two months. Once a frail, diseased medical doctor, he's brought some new powers back him from "wherever" he was. While the word "vampire" is never actually used in the video, it's rather clear those are the powers that Morbius now possesses.

Once unable to walk without crutches, the transformed doctor can fly and move with super speed. He's also got the ability to hear and sense things like a bat. It also appears he can either control bats or turn his body into a cloud of bats. Of course, there's a drawback to the newfound powers as well as he's got a very strong - nay uncontrollable - thirst for human blood.

The entire trailer is set to a dark, spooky version of "People are Strange" that absolutely goes along with the tone of the clips as those involved try to figure out not only whether he's there to save or destroy the world, but where Morbius will be able to fit into the superhero world. Perhaps fans will get a better idea of where the movie fits as well and whether it will be included or separate from the MCU in the coming months.

Morbius will release in theaters on January 28th, 2022.
