Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Morbius, the upcoming superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character and Spider-Man villain of the same name. The trailer has been making quite a bit of buzz since it was first released, with much talk about Michael Keaton's involvement in the movie and a connection to the critically-acclaimed Spider-Man PS4 game from Insomniac Games.

At one point in the trailer, we see Jared Leto's Michael Morbius walking through an alley in an orange jumpsuit. There's a brick wall in the background that's covered in graffiti, showing Spider-Man's image with the word "MURDERER" spray-painted across it. This seems to be a direct reference to the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and potentially teases at deeper Marvel Cinematic Universe connections in Morbius than there was in Venom. However, the image of Spider-Man used for the graffiti doesn't appear to be from the MCU, but rather the PS4 Spider-Man video game.

With Sony releasing the Morbius movie and having published the Spider-Man PS4 game, it's not all that strange that the decision was made to use an image of Spider-Man from the game. However, it's unlikely that this will lead to an actual story connection between the Morbius movie and the Spider-Man video game, but such a possibility hasn't exactly been ruled out either.

Maybe this is a sign that the Spider-Man PS4 game will be getting some Morbius DLC. It seems like releasing Morbius DLC for the Spider-Man PS4 game would be a good way for Sony to not only make some more cash off the 2018 hit, but also to promote the upcoming movie. However, substantial DLC hasn't been released for Spider-Man on PS4 for quite some time, so that may be expecting a bit too much.

PlayStation owners wanting more Spider-Man video game content will likely have to wait until the inevitable Spider-Man 2 game from Insomniac. That game has yet to be officially announced, but the Spider-Man PS4 ending certainly set up a sequel or two. And with Insomniac Games now owned by Sony, it seems like a no-brainer for the studio to work on bringing Spider-Man 2 to the PS5.

More information on Spider-Man's video game future may not come for quite some time, but fans can expect more details on the Morbius movie to come to light in the months leading up to its summer release.

Spider-Man is out now for PS4. Morbius premieres in theaters on July 31, 2020.
