Indie game developer Everything is Full of Gods confirmed that its Souls-like action RPG Moonray will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X. Fans should expect more games to be announced for the consoles soon as Xbox holds its Xbox Series X gameplay reveal event this week.

In a press release, Everything is Full of Gods announced that Moonray would be available on Steam Early Access on July 2, 2020, ahead of a planned, full release in 2021. The game, which has been called an "intergalactic adventure" and a "surreal third-person action RPG" by the developer, will be available on next-generation consoles "at a later date." Moonray stars a woman who has been turned into a golem by a godlike being.

Moonray's gameplay, seen briefly in a new teaser trailer for the game, will be instantly familiar to anyone who has played a Dark Souls game. The golem protagonist will be hacking and slashing her way through enemies, also making sure to parry and block attacks, and get some additional damage in with a weapon called the Hyperblaster. Players will earn materials, before using them to upgrade their character at resting points called "Beams of Light" which sound like Dark Souls bonfires by another name.

While that may sound closer to Dark Souls than some would like, Everything is Full of Gods seems to be trying to set Moonray apart with its art. The game takes cues from Salvador Dali's surrealist paintings, and while there doesn't seem to be a melting clock in sight, the strange natural, polygonal world is just his style. It's early days but those who are fans of video game art may find something to like here.

Only a few games have been confirmed for next-gen consoles, such as Cyberpunk 2077, which will have an Xbox Series X version, so fans are grateful for more announcements. However, many will understandably be skeptical about Moonray, as it is the first game from Everything is Full of Gods. Maneuvering early access and getting the game ready for new consoles aren't easy things for any developer, and many console gamers will want to wait to see more before they add this one to their calendars.

Moonray may also find competition from PS5 launch title Godfall. While Godfall doesn't have Dali's style, it does have Souls-like gameplay, and its name suggests that its story will be about some sort of god.

Moonray will be released on PC in Steam Early Access on July 2, 2020, and it will come to PS5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.
