The MCU has seen several exciting and complex characters, but it appears that Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight may take things to another level. Now, one of the Marvel Studios series' directors, Mohamed Diab, believes the titular hero will be in the MCU for many years.

Isaac will make his MCU debut as Marc Spector, a mercenary who embodies the complicated vigilante Moon Knight and suffers from a dissociative identity disorder. Spector was a former US marine facing death before his life fell within the hands of Khonshu, the ancient Egyptian god of the Moon, for whom he has now become a conduit. As for Diab, the Egyptian screenwriter and director is best known for his acclaimed Cairo 678.

Speaking with SFX ahead of the series' premiere on Disney Plus, Diab has high hopes for the show and what lies ahead for Moon Knight, which could perhaps involve having him featured in an MCU film. “I dream and wish for a film," Diab said. "But with Marvel, the way they play it, it’s not like you graduate into a film. You can go into a film and come to a TV show and go back. It’s like a crazy world. Even with the successful shows, like WandaVision, they’re not doing season two. She jumped into a film, maybe she’s going to come back or not. I don’t know. And that’s exciting."

Oscar Isaac Moon Knight

Having the flexibility to appear in different MCU formats, whether that means on the small or big screen, Diab feels that the character of Moon Knight is here to stay, and what Isaac was able to cook is truly something special. "But I can tell you for a fact, I can see him in the next 10 years, not just the next film," he says. "He’s a very interesting character. He’s probably the most interesting character for any actor to play. Oscar is doing a great job. People already like him even from the trailer. I think the show’s going to resonate with people, so I see him staying for a long time."

After starring in other blockbusters like the Star Wars sequel trilogy and 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, Isaac was in search of a project that had a homemade feel to it. Little did he know that what he was looking for was a role in another big franchise, but Oscar has previously said Moon Knight is the MCU's first character study since Iron Man. So taking Diab's comments and Isaac's thoughts on Moon Knight, it may really just be the start of something truly special in the MCU.

Created by The Umbrella Academy's Jeremy Slater, the series will also star Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, the series' main antagonist, Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man, May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly, and Lucy Thackeray as Donna. While Diab is in the director's chair for four of the episodes, duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have directed the other two.

Moon Knight premieres on Disney Plus on March 30, 2022.
