Netflix's brand-new limited series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has been a record-setting hit for the streamer and series creator Ryan Murphy. The immersive ratings place the series in the top spot on the streamer's top 10 rankings for the week, knocking off the fifth season of Cobra Kai from the coveted spot.

The 10-episode Netflix original limited series stars American Horror Story alum, Evan Peters, as the monstrous serial killer. The unsettling events in the series are told mainly from the victims' point of view as a method to honor their painful stories and shed light on the police ineptitude that allowed Dahmer's psychopathic actions to continue uninterrupted for numerous years. The series dramatically dives into several instances where Dahmer was nearly apprehended but eventually let go.

Per Deadline, the limited series drew 196.2 million viewing hours, which places it in the upper echelon of record-setting Netflix original series. The only Netflix shows that have performed better are Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, season two of Bridgerton, and the fourth season of Stranger Things. While falling short of these well-known original projects, the series did outperform the 195.97 million viewing hours of Inventing Anna and the 179 million viewing hours of the third season of You.

The overpowering viewing hours pushed the 10-episode limited series to the top spot in Netflix's top ten weekly rankings, with the second season of Fate: The Winx Saga coming in second place with approximately 61 million viewing hours over its debut week. Additionally, the limited series engagement has made the show a highly discussed conversational piece due to the audience's desire to not romanticize the killer. As a result, the series has been an unsettling watch for viewers eager to know more about the heinous events while remembering the seventeen victims who tragically lost their lives.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story ultimately proves to be Murphy's most successful venture with the streaming platform regarding viewership engagement. The American Horror Stories co-creator also created several notable projects for Netflix, such as Hollywood, The Politician, Ratched, and The Prom. Murphy co-created the 10-episode original limited series with Ian Brennan, which stars Niecy Nash, Molly Ringwald, Michael Learned, and Richard Jenkins alongside Peters.
