Ever since the release of Monster Hunter World earlier this year, Capcom has been continuously adding exciting elements to the game such as cameos from other franchises. In the past, titles such as Street Fighter, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and most recently Final Fantasy 14 has made its way to the Monster Hunter universe. In past cross-over events, players can acquire costumes and other cosmetic items related to those games. Now, CD Projekt Red has recently collaborated with Capcom to bring The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia to Monster Hunter World soon.

In the announcement, CD Projekt Red revealed that the collaboration with Monster Hunter World will be more than just a costume or other cosmetic items for players to acquire. Instead, Geralt will be a fully playable character that will allow Monster Hunter players to embark on “Witcher-inspired quests.”

The Witcher developer also revealed that the crossover event will introduce a unique gameplay experience that seamlessly weaves The Witcher’s RPG mechanics in Monster Hunter World. Players will be able to take advantage of Geralt’s “signature fighting style, seamlessly blending swordplay, combat magic, and an assortment of monster hunting equipment,” CD Projekt Red said. The Witcher 3 crossover event will be released to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2019, with a PC release to follow at an unannounced date. This isn’t the first time that The Witcher’s Geralt has appeared outside of his game; several months ago, The Witcher protagonist starred as a guest character in Bandai Namco’s Soulcalibur 6.

It is exciting to see which other games Capcom plans to bring to the Monster Hunter universe. Given the massive hype for the remake of Resident Evil 2, it would be interesting to see Capcom introduce Resident Evil monsters and characters in Monster Hunter World. Besides, both are beloved Capcom franchises, so a collaboration between the two is not that far off. Players can also check the crossover gear that we want to see in Monster Hunter World, which, coincidentally, included The Witcher 3.

Lastly, Capcom also announced today that Monster Hunter World is getting a significant new expansion called Iceborne next fall, which will continue the story of the game’s primary campaign. The upcoming DLC will also introduce new weapons, quests, and monsters, and will be released to consoles first before heading to the PC version of the game.

Monster Hunter World is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
