Players will likely never be bored when playing Monster Hunter World, as the expansive game always has something new for the player to achieve. In addition to a lengthy story campaign, players can also take part in investigations, farm crafting materials, complete bounties, help a fellow player by answering SOS Flares, or go up against enemies in the arena. The game also features a number of hidden items that players will need to unlock including items known as Mantles.

Mantles are another way that Monster Hunter World is able to mix up gameplay for the player. These are essentially cloaks that players can wear over their normal gear which provide temporary buffs and bonuses. After a small cooldown, players can again equip the item to gain back the buff for a short time.

While there's a lot of mantles to pick from, each with their own benefits, one of the better ones available in the game is known as the Rocksteady Mantle. For many who played the open beta, this was one of the more popular options to go into battle with. Here's why this piece of gear is a must-have for any high-level hunter.

What is it?

As its name hints at, the Rocksteady Mantle is a defensive tool that provides a number of resistances and protections for the wearer. For melee focused hunters, it basically negates most effects which puts them in danger including preventing flinch, wind effects and knockdown, provides earplugs to stop monster roar stun, and adds tremor resistance. On top of all that, this mantle also reduces the amount of damage players receive from monsters.

The bonuses last for 90 seconds when activated and take 360 seconds to fully recharge.

How to Unlock It

First and foremost, players need to be Hunter Rank 50 at a minimum. This means that the story campaign has been completed as well as the quests Beyond the Blasting Scales and Rumble in the Highlands. At this point, players should have advanced enough to have unlocked investigations to fight tempered elder dragons.

Players will now need to kill five tempered elder dragons in order to open up the specific quest needed to begin the unlock process for the Rocksteady Mantle. The good thing about this part is that players don't have to specifically target any particular dragon, it can be any five as long as they're a tempered elder dragon such as Nergigante.

Once that's done, the optional 9 star quest A Summons from Below should be available from the armory merchant inside the Workshop of Astera. She'll task players with hunting a Tempered Val Hazak and a Tempered Odogaron. When the two dragons defeated, return to the armory merchant to claim the mantle. Monster Hunter World is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release planned for later this year.
