Since launching a few weeks ago, Monster Hunter World has been a runaway success for Capcom. The game has already set a new sales record for the company, having shipped over six million units worldwide. Still, there are many fans who would love to take this game on the go with the Nintendo Switch, though Capcom isn't so keen on the idea.

Speaking to Toyo Keizai, Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto was asked about a potential Switch version of Monster Hunter World. While Tsujimoto admitted that Capcom is well aware of the request from fans, actually developing and releasing it wouldn't be easy to pull off. The main reason as he sees it is that the Switch has different functions from the other consoles as well as different players. For Capcom, it's necessary to ensure that developers adapt to the different types of characteristics for each game console when developing for it.

While Tsujimoto doesn't provide any details on the type of Switch characteristics he's referring to, it's likely that he's hinting at the portable nature of the console, its different hardware specifications, as well as its unique controlling schemes through motion controls and the Joy-Cons. It's also worth noting that Monster Hunter World on the Switch was never ruled out completely during the interview, only confirming that Capcom would first need to adapt to the differences of the Switch if it planned on moving forward with the idea. It's likely that Capcom would like to bring the popular franchise to the large fanbase on the Switch besides the Monster Hunter XX port, it's just uncertain if Monster Hunter World is realistically an option in the future.

While PC and Switch owners continue to sit on the sidelines for now, Capcom is moving full steam ahead with crossover events. PlayStation 4 fans will get a chance to unlock the Aloy armor set from Horizon: Zero Dawn on February 28. Street Fighter fans also got a great look at live gameplay of Ryu in action thanks to a recent Capcom TV presentation. Sometime soon, fans will also get the chance to bring Mega Man into the game through a new Palico armor set and other Easter Eggs such as customizable battle music to the tune of classic 8-bit robot master themes.

Monster Hunter World is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will launch in autumn 2018 for PC.
