Monster Hunter World has become the first big multiplatform release of 2018, launching to widespread critical acclaim and record-breaking sales for the series. Some gamers with both a PS4 and Xbox One may be looking to pick up the game, but want to know which console runs the game best. Now thanks to some analysis by Digital Foundry, we know which console runs Monster Hunter World better.

According to the analysis by Digital Foundry, Monster Hunter World runs better on PS4 than Xbox One. The PS4 version of the game has 1080p resolution visuals, and typically runs at 30 frames per second, with frequent drops. Xbox One, meanwhile, displays the game at 864p resolution, with an average frame rate as low as 26 FPS in the game's denser areas.

Gamers that have upgraded both of their consoles may be more concerned with how the game runs on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, so luckily Digital Foundry completed some analysis for those systems as well. Despite the Xbox One X being the most powerful console ever made to date, it turns out that Monster Hunter World runs rather evenly on the two systems. Xbonx One X does have a slight edge, however, sometimes reaching more than 50 frames per second.

Of course, anyone deciding which console they want to buy the game for have other factors to take into account as well. For instance, Monster Hunter World is very much a co-op experience, and so fans will want to purchase the game for the console that they play the most with their friends.

Secondly, there's also the PS4-exclusive content to take into account. As of the time of this writing, a Horizon: Zero Dawn-themed quest is running in the PS4 version of Monster Hunter World that allows players to unlock some rather impressive Watcher armor for their Palico. The Xbox One version has limited-time events as well, but unfortunately, Xbox players have to miss out on the Horizon: Zero Dawn duds.

No matter which platform players choose, Monster Hunter World's critical acclaim speaks for itself. The game should be a high quality experience regardless of console, so gamers should feel comfortable picking it up for any system.

Monster Hunter World is out now for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release planned for later this year.
