Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is one of the top 2019 DLC's, and has expanded the MHW lore with entirely new regions, monsters, and more. One of these new monsters is the Yian Garuga, a bird wyvern type known for having a very aggressive temperament, and for possessing a deadly array of poison and fire attacks.

But for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne players that feel a bit confused for not having seen the Yian Garuga, there are a few key steps to unlock the region and quest required to hunt and defeat this powerful creature.

Unlock the Guiding Lands

For players interested in unlocking Yian Garuga, they'll first need to unlock the Guiding Lands. The Guiding Lands house the endgame for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and is only available to hunters who have reached Master Rank and have advanced their Master Rank Assignments past the final boss. Basically, players hoping to confront the Yian Garuga will have to beat the final boss of the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne DLC.

Before players can unlock the quest needed to confront the Yian Garuga, they'll first have to level up the Guiding Land's Forest Region to level 3.  To level up the Forest Region, players can try picking up monster tracks, capturing or slaying monsters, breaking monster parts, or trapping a monster, provided its all done within the region players are interested in leveling (in this case, the Forest Region).

Once players have accomplished this, they'll unlock the quest.

Return of the Crazy One

The quest for the Yian Garuga is actually entitled "Return of the Crazy One." It's a suitable title, as the bird wyvern is notably temperamental, unpredictable, and above all, poisonous. The quest is given by the Field Leader in Seliana, who will give players the special assignment that will require them to defeat Yian Garuga.

For this encounter, players should ensure they arrive prepared. The Yian Garuga deals deadly poison damage, so arriving with a plethora of Antidotes and/or Herbal Medicines will greatly assist in completing this assignment. Another huge helper for this encounter are Flash Pods, which will give players the ability to bring down the Yian Garuga while it is in flight.

Its worth noting that the Yian Garuga's powerful beak attacks can be baited. This is useful as any misfire with this attack will force it to lose more stamina, and thus leave it weaker. When the creature is tired it will stand still, leaving it open to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne players to deal their most powerful attacks.

Once the special assignment is finished, Yian Garuga will appear in investigations thereafter.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
