Fans of Monster Hunter World who play on PlayStation will get a treat in the upcoming Iceborne expansion in the form of Horizon Zero Dawn's Aloy. The expansion will feature a crossover with Horizon Zero Dawn's Frozen Wilds DLC.
Aloy has shown up in Monster Hunter World in the past but her return will relate to the game's ice theme. Horizon Zero Dawn has some similarities with Monster Hunter with players using primitive weapons and guns to take down different kinds of beasts in knock-down drag-out battles, so Aloy's addition made sense.
Capcom announced the inclusion of the character with a short trailer. The first time she appeared in Monster Hunter World, Aloy wore her original main outfit from Horizon Zero Dawn and carried a bow. In this trailer, Aloy appears to wield one of the rattler weapons from the game, which works a little more like a gun. She also appears to wear the coveted shield weave armor that players have to go out of their way to unlock in Horizon Zero Dawn.
Last time Monster Hunter World teamed up with Horizon Zero Dawn it included exclusive quests that players could take in order to unlock the armor mentioned above as well as a skin for the player's companion that turned them into one of Horizon Zero Dawn's watchers. The trailer doesn't mention any of this, but seeing as it makes a point to tease the Frozen Wilds DLC specifically, it stands to reason the partnership will work the same way it did before.
Seeing this partnership should excite fans of Horizon Zero Dawn who really resonated with Aloy's character. Since she might not return for a sequel, this could be players' last opportunity to play as the character. Perhaps some Horizon Zero Dawn fans who have considered picking up Monster Hunter World will make the jump now that they can play as the character in both the game and the expansion.
For Monster Hunter World players, this just adds another piece of content to the pile. The developers have said that the upcoming Iceborne expansion will rival the size of the original game when it comes to the content players can expect. Capcom has already shown off some epic battles against some new monster types. Now, players who pick up Iceborne can battle the elder dragon Velkhana while dressed as Aloy.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne will release September 6th on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. The Horizon Zero Dawn partnership will only appear in the Playstation 4 version.
