Monster Hunter World is full of options, which is part of what makes it so great, but that also means sometimes it's easy to accidentally ignore or overlook a fantastic item. One of the items that is often first overlooked as too complicated or weird is the Hunting Horn. Players who take the time to master this weapon won't regret it and will likely quickly become the hero of their party.

Part of what makes Monster Hunter World's Hunting Horn so great is its versatility. Unfortunately, that's also part of what makes it complicated and leads some casual players to avoid using it. For those who want to give it a try, we recommend following these steps to make the most of the horn...

Master The Moves First

Start out by ignoring the songs and just concentrating on the moves. Ignore everything in the upper left and just get familiar and comfortable with the weapon's seven moves. All seven are really close in power, but offer great variety in the direction of the impact. Players will need to be comfortable with all of these before moving on to the song mechanic.

Learn The Songs

Attacks award a note (up to four), which will appear in the upper lefthand corner of the screen. The upper righthand side of the screen displays a number of songs that can be played with the instrument. These are very powerful and are the real reason to be using the Hunting Horn.

Part of what makes songs so powerful is that most of them apply to your full party, not just you. Each song should have two tiers. Playing the song while it is still active will extend the length of the song's effect. Players are able to stack up to three songs to use in the near future.

The hardest part to master will be lining up the correct moves to activate the song you are looking for. The best way to do this is to visit an attack dummy and start practicing. Check out this video for a visual example of how to line up the correct notes.

Self Improvement

Self Improvement is a song that only applies to you, but is very powerful. It lasts for three minutes and makes the player very fast in addition to the other Mind's Eye buff effects. Don't forget to use this one often.

Use Encores

The Encores are a series of hidden attacks. In the middle of playing a song, if you hit R2 you'll follow up with an Encore and play the song a second time for free, lining up two tiers of skills in one shot. Make sure that you point the animation towards the monster that you want to strike when you activate your Encore.

Don't Forget The Regular Attacks

As always, the Hunting Horns also have a jumping and sliding attack. Don't forget to put these to good use, as well.

That's all there is to it! It definitely takes a little bit of practice to get familiar with the song mechanics, but the rewards are well worth it. Be sure to check out our other guides for more tips and tricks. Good luck out there, hunters!
