Monster Hunter World players have an abundance of weapons and gear to unlock and collect in-game. One of the best pieces of armor in Monster Hunter is the Rocksteady Mantle. The mantle, or cloak, is unlocked later in the game and has a ton of benefits for players who prefer to solo monsters.

Fair warning, this guide will reveal some details of the game that players early in the game may not want to know about. Hunters that want to know how and where to get the mantle should follow the steps outlined below.

How To Get The Rocksteady Mantle

Rocksteady Mantle Monster Hunter World (1)

Gamers that would like to unlock the mantle need to be HR 50 plus. In other words, hunters will need to complete all of the main campaign missions and defeat the final boss. After progressing through the campaign, gamers will need to complete the HR 29 "Beyond the Blotting Scales" and the HR 49 quest "Thunderous Rumble in the Highlands". Once all of these quests are complete, hunters will finally have access to third tier tempered monsters.  Specifically, players will be able to take on the tempered elder dragons in Monster Hunter.

Hunt Five Tempered Elder Dragons

Monster Hunter Lunastra (1)

Hunters will not have to kill each of the five dragons, but just five in total. Players will need to have the Tempered Investigation unlocked in Nergigante. The Ghillie Mantle will be a useful item to equip while out on the hunt for these creatures. Likewise, players will want to have augmented armor and weapons to make the process easier.

Two great locations to find these tempered beasts are the lairs of Nergigante and Teostra. Hunters should use the Ghillie Mantle to better track the movements of the dragons while farming. Gamers should look at their investigations as well, because there will likely be several elder dragon objectives. After spending some time tracking down and killing five of the elder dragons, players will be one step closer to unlocking the mantle.

Return To The Armory In Ice Terror

Hunters should proceed to the Ice Terror Armory and speak with the female NPC. After chatting with her, she will give gamers the the "Summons from Below" quest. It is a nine star optional quest that hunters may complete. Gamers will need to hunt both of the target monsters in the Rotten Vale to complete the additional quest. Below are the Monsters that need to be killed to unlock the mantle:

  • Vaal Hazak: Elder Dragon with a fire weakness and water resistance.
  • Odogaron: Large monster with ice and thunder weaknesses, resistant to fire and water.

Each of these beasts will feel slightly easier to take down than most tempered beasts. That does not mean that killing them will be a cakewalk, just slightly less difficult than most monsters of their level. Once hunters have slayed the two above beasts they can return to the armory in Ice Terror and speak with the quest NPC. She will then give players the Rocksteady Mantle.

Rocksteady Mantle Perks

The Rocksteady Mantle is one of the most sought-after pieces of armor for a reason. It is extremely effective for melee players because of its 90-second effect duration. Gamers that manage to unlock it will receive the following buffs.

  • Eliminates damage reactions.
  • Prevents wind effects.
  • Protects hearing.
  • Grants tremor resistance.
  • Receive less damage from attacks.

The five different effects are incredible for just one type of gear. Namely, monsters will not be able to knock players down while attacking. Hunters will still take a small amount of damage, but it is one of if not the best mantle for battling the largest and most powerful beasts in the game. It does have a long cooldown time, but hunters can create space and use evasive maneuvers while waiting to attack. Players will need to get their damage in while it is active because they will have to wait six minutes for the effects to return.

Upgrading The Rocksteady Mantle

To make the extraordinary cloak even better, hunters can upgrade it using the steps below. Boosters were added to Monster Hunter to allow players to increase both effect time as well as area of effect. These upgrades are only available to gamers that have the Iceborn DLC. The quests to unlock these boosters can be initiated at the Seliana Armory. Gamers will have to put in some time to unlock the Rocksteady Mantle+. Hunters need to upgrade the following mantles first.

  • Ghille Mantle.
  • Vitality Mantle.
  • Iceproof Mantle.
  • Thunderproof Mantle.

After completing the associated quests for the above mantles, gamers will receive the four-star optional quest "Piercing Black". The quest will require hunters to track down and kill the Tempered Black Diablos. Fighting the beast is not for the faint of heart, and hunters will need to come prepared with traps and potions. After receiving damage, the Black Diablos will dig and perform a sneak attack from underground. The best time to DPS the dragon is while it is performing a tail attack. After a few attempts, and numerous potions, players will be able to upgrade their Rocksteady Mantle.
