Although Capcom had initially told Monster Hunter World players that the spring update would go live on March 22nd, the new monster and weapon balance patch is live right now. While it is only March 21st in the states, in Japan it is already the 22nd and a download is waiting for all Monster Hunter World fans.

As previously mentioned, the update includes the game’s first monster, Deviljho. Currently, there is no quest tied to Deviljho, but players that want to fight the “giant pickle” can find it by looking for the “??” symbol on the world map. Any area that has the symbol has a Deviljho roaming around.

Deviljho’s introduction to Monster Hunter World also carries a whole new set of armor and weapons to craft. There is one new weapon for each of the 14 classes, and an alpha and a beta armor set. The key perks on the armor are partbreaker, latent power, handicraft, and speed eating, so those players that enjoy breaking horns and severing tails might want to give the sets a look.

Handicraft is likely to be a key skill for Deviljho weapons, since almost all of them leave enough room for some white weapon sharpness. In fact, many of the weapons have the highest raw damage for their respective classes, but the trade-off is negative affinity.

Alongside the release of Deviljho, Monster Hunter World has balanced almost all of the weapons in the game. Great swords are now even stronger when using the level 2 and level 3 charged attacks, hammers are more likely to stun, and switch axes grant earplugs while using the discharge attack. Most of the balance changes are fairly subtle, but they are almost all focused on making weapons more viable.

The update also takes away the ability for players to troll others by staggering them during carves. Now, once the mission has completed, players will be immune to all hit reactions, including bombs from a pesky Bazelgeuse.

Overall, the update should be a welcome add-on for Monster Hunter World, with a few new items to collect, a new monster to hunt, and some changes to test. This isn’t the last change players will see to the game either; the spring blossom fest is right around the corner, and is set to bring additional items to the game.

Monster Hunter World is out now for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version releases later this year.
