Anyone that has spent a little time with the Monster Hunter series know that it can be quite dense. And while the latest entry in the series, Monster Hunter World, has copious tutorials to explain the basic mechanics, there is plenty about the game left for players to discover on their own. Some are essential pieces of information, like how to properly capture a monster, while others are small tricks that will make hunts a little easier.

One trick that will help players that use weapons with a charge meter or charge attack (Charge Blade, Dual Blades, etc.), involves hitting carcasses. If players can find a carcass to attack they will fill their meter prior to engaging a monster, which will give them a path towards big damage early on.

While plenty of Monster Hunter World veterans likely know this trick already, content creator Mtashed shows why it can be quite useful. As Mtashed explains, in quests with a rather short time limit, being able to deal out a lot of damage at the beginning of the fight can help end it quickly.

For Charge Blade users, attacking carcasses can help first charge up their shield and then their phials, so that when the time comes they can hit the monster with the devastating elemental discharge. It can take a while to build up the full potential of elemental discharge, and as a result, players will lose a lot of time off the clock. With this trick, however, they can unleash at least one or two discharges on a Tempered Elder Dragon within the first few seconds of the fight.

And as players begin to increase their Hunter Rank they will find themselves facing tougher and tougher enemies. The timer will become more of an issue simply by virtue of how much health the Tempered monsters have. But trust us when we say that Tempered monsters are well worth the effort. Eventually players will also get to Tempered Elder Dragons, whose rewards are the key to augmenting armor and weapons.

Monster Hunter World is available now for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version will release later in the fall.
