Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is just around the corner. The Monster Hunter Stories series brought an entirely new type of gameplay to the Monster Hunter world. Rather than just hunting monsters, Monster Hunter Stories sees players fighting alongside monsters and battling in turn-based fights. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin also brings even more new features to the series, which has many fans wondering about what else the sequel will change from the original Monster Hunter Stories.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has released trailers to show fans some of what they can expect from the gameplay and story. The trailers, however, do not show what players can expect from some of the series' smaller mechanics and gameplay aspects. One of the more notable aspects of the game that the trailers have not shown anything about is Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin's Monstie Eggs. Many fans were frustrated with how the system worked in the original Monster Hunter Stories, so many fans are also curious if they can expect any improvements or changes to the system in the coming sequel.

How Monstie Eggs Work In Monster Hunter Stories

Monstie Eggs are the primary way of unlocking new monsters to use in Monster Hunter Stories. This makes getting a variety of high quality eggs extremely important. In the first Monster Hunter Stories, players primarily collect eggs by finding Egg Nests inside of Monster Dens. Monster Dens spawn randomly across the map that players adventure across. They also have a small chance to spawn as Rare Monster Dens, that have a chance of holding better eggs for players to find. Once players find and hatch the eggs they are able to start building trusting relationships with their monsters in Monster Hunter Stories, allowing them to perform better in combat.

Many Monster Hunter Stories players found this process frustrating due to how random it could be. To get some of Monster Hunter's strongest monsters players would have to constantly reload missions until a Rare Monster Den spawned. Then when players found it they would only be able to grab a few eggs to try and get the type that they were looking for out of the dozens of possibilities. For many players, the system was too random and grindy to be enjoyed, leaving the door wide open for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin to improve on it.

How Monster Hunter Stories 2 Could Improve Getting Monstie Eggs

One of the most frustrating aspects of hatching Monstie Eggs in Monster Hunter Stories was the random element of tracking them down on missions, only to possibly end up not getting the one wanted at all. A big improvement on this system would be if players had a more reliable way to find Monster Dens. Giving players a way to have either a monster or one of Monster Hunter Stories 2's Palamutes be able to track and lead players to Monster Dens would make the process much more approachable.

It would also be better if Rare Monster Dens were guaranteed to spawn on hunts for more powerful monsters. This would allow players who have reached the last levels of the game to be able to grind to complete their collection much more effectively.

Another big aspect of Monstie Eggs is their weight and smell. This adds another random element to finding Monstie Eggs that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin could greatly improve on. This could be done by allowing players to have items that improve the quality of eggs in the wild. This could be done by allowing players to eat meals before missions that enhance the quality of eggs found during their next mission.

Players could invest in upgrades available for the incubator at the player's base that upgrades an egg's quality while it hatches. This way players would still be able to have the excitement from finding strong eggs randomly while also allowing high-level players to expedite the process to get the best versions of some of Monster Hunter Stories 2's more popular monsters.

How Monster Hunter Stories 2 Could Improve Hatching Monstie Eggs

Another frustrating part of hatching Monstie Eggs in Monster Hunter Stories is finding the exact type that players want. Players may be able to re-roll players a couple of times in each Monster Den, but it can still take multiple attempts for a player to find what they are looking for. Monster Hunter Stories 2 could make this much more player-friendly by having eggs still fall into Monster Hunter's categories like flying wyvern, herbivore, fanged beast, carapaceon, and bird wyvern, but only have players find eggs in those categories. In Monster Hunter Stories eggs spawn in those categories but also with specific monsters inside of them based on what pattern is on its shell.

To improve on this, Monster Hunter Stories could extend the series' standard crafting system to the eggs as well. Most Monster Hunter games see players crafting armor and weapons by collecting pieces of monsters and combining them. This allows players to customize their builds for upcoming fights while also motivating them to grind hunts to get the necessary crafting components.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin could adopt a similar system with choosing what monster the player gets from a collected egg. A large improvement would be still having eggs spawn as different types, but then allowing players to use those eggs to craft the specific monster egg that they are looking for before having it be incubated and hatched.

Of course, there is no way to know what changes will come with Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin until it eventually launches. It will be really great, however, to see exactly what new features and changes it brings to the series. Any players who just can't wait to see what it all brings, however, will be able to play Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin's free demo to get a look before the game fully launches on July 9.
