Monster Hunter Rise is a feast for the eyes that treats players to wonderful vistas, majestic monsters, a cozy home village, and lovable characters. It's only natural that many hunters would want to capture the memories of serene moments and epic encounters with a well-placed screenshot. In an age where any video game worth its salt has a photo mode, does Monster Hunter Rise follow suit and cater to the digital photographer in all of us? The answer is yes, and this guide will explain how to get started.

The Photo Mode, or Camera as it's simply called in Monster Hunter Rise, is unlocked early in the game during the tutorials. Joining the hunter's entourage of animal companions is the Cohoot, a domesticated owl-like creature that will aid with finely-crafted compositions and selfies. To enter the photo mode, the player must first get accustomed to the Action Bar, a new feature in Monster Hunter Rise.

Whether in the Village or out on a quest, the Action Bar can be used to shortcut various actions by simply toggling through them with left or right inputs on the D-Pad, and then pressing either up or down to activate the highlighted action. This is different from toggling through items such as Potions, which uses a combination of the L button with left or right D-pad inputs. The Camera option is found on the Action Bar, so players who are ready to capture a memorable moment should toggle to this option and then press up or down to begin.

The Camera mode puts the game in a first-person perspective through the hunter's eyes. The player can move their character and look around to capture the perfect angle. Finer adjustments can be made with the D-pad, which will move the camera independently of the character. It's also possible to zoom in or out with ZL or ZR respectively.

For the sake of selfies, or just generally capturing a scene with the player character included, Cohoot View can be used by pressing down on the L stick during Camera mode. This fittingly gives the camera a birds-eye view of the area. During Cohoot View, the player can continue to move their hunter as they wish and even use the Y button to perform poses or gestures. When everything is just right and the hunter is looking perfectly stylish, pressing the A button will take the picture.

Pictures taken in the photo mode are saved in an in-game album as well as the Switch's album on the HOME menu. Any picture from the in-game album can be displayed as a decoration in the hunter's room. It's even possible to visit other players' rooms during online play and see which photos they're most proud of.

There are many possibilities for awesome screenshots using the new Camera feature. Landscapes and character portraits are fun and easy to capture, though getting an action shot of a hunter facing down a rampaging monster might be difficult without the ability to pause the game during Camera mode. Even so, the hard work of getting a perfect shot pays off when it's shared with friends and other fans.

Monster Hunter Rise is available now for Switch, with a PC version releasing in 2022.
