Monster Hunter Rise has been received incredibly well over its first launch week, with positive reviews coming in from critics and players alike. The game is also selling very well, with Monster Hunter Rise shippping over five million copies in just over a week since it launched on March 26.

Still, both veterans and newer players may still be trying to fully grasp some of the new elements added with Monster Hunter Rise, such as the new companion Palamutes. Like Palicos, Palamutes in Monster Hunter Rise can be equipped with their own unique equipment sets, as well as additional equipment pieces called Scrolls that provide various buffs during quests and monster hunts.

How to Unlock Palamute Scrolls

First things first, to equip Palamute Scrolls to their canyne buddies, players must first begin by unlocking Palamute Scrolls. However, unlocking Palamute Scrolls isn't exactly obvious at first glance. Players will need to complete quests from a certain NPC in Kamura Village to unlock every available Palamute Scroll, with more Scrolls being unlocked as players progress through the main story. Similar to quests like the Rondine's Cultural Exchange side quest, players can unlock Scrolls through side quests provided by Canyne Master Inukai.

Canyne Master Inukai is one of the various NPCs dotted around Kamura Village that hunters can spend time talking to between hunts. Canyne Master Inukai can be found to the left of Kamura Village's quest maiden Hinoa. As players continue to advance through the various hunter ranks by doing Village Quests, Canyne Master Inukai will provide more and more quests, which players must complete to earn each variety of Palamute scroll. Additionally, more Palamute Scrolls can sometimes be purchased from Rondine at the Argosy, under the "Rare Finds" section of her shop.

How to Equip Palamute Scrolls

After earning or purchasing a handful of Palamute Scrolls, players will need to equip them onto their Palamute to see the benefits during hunts. Thankfully, equipping Palamute Scrolls is fairly easy. Similar to how players equip their various armor sets onto their hunters, Palamutes and Palicos have their own equipment screen that can be accessed through any nearby Buddy Board. Buddy Boards can be found next to Hinoa or in the Buddy Plaza, and changing Palamute Equipment is the third menu option for players to select.

This menu won't show the current Palamute armor that's equipped, but will instead show the three gear slots a Palamute is equipped with. Players must select the piece of gear they would like to change out for a Palamute Scroll. A Palamute's Equipment Box cannot be unequipped, so players will have to trade out the Dual-Bladed Chain or the Steel Fang for a Palamute Scroll.

Since each piece of equipment has its own benefits, players should find the right balance that works for them. For instance, equipping the Healing Scroll will let Palamutes stay healthy during a fight longer, while choosing the Diversion Scroll will help a Palamute lure monsters. Players should make sure to equip their Palamutes with the ideal Scroll depending on their next hunt.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC release is slated for 2022.
