Fans of looter games can rejoice, as Monster Hunter Rise released for the Nintendo Switch to great success earlier this year. After just a month of being released, the game has seen an incredible number of sales, a driven community, and heaps of praise for its incredible gameplay. It's an entry that fans new and old can enjoy equally.

With the first major update launching just a few days ago, players are more than likely rushing to the game's tantalizing endgame content. Speeding through the base game may be enticing, but doing so will stop players from experiencing the game's rich lore. Each of the characters has a rich backstory only those willing to endure dialog will realize. Here are just a few facts about the residents of Kamura Village.

9 The Legend Of Elder Fugen's Longsword

Have you ever talked to Elder Fugen and wondered why he carries around three swords? Monster Hunting does take a tole on blades, but there's a reason for his weapon choice. Elder Fugen's longsword is a weapon that the protectors of Kamura Village have passed down for generations. Only the strongest hunter in the village has the honor of getting this blade. When the player hunter takes down Magnamalo, Elder Fugen passes it down to them and continues the tradition.

8 Guild Master Hojo Draws The Monster Posters

One of the most beautiful things about Monster Hunter Rise is the art style. Each of the monsters is showcased on quest boards in beautiful hand-painted ink. They're a marvelous sight and one that really gives Monster Hunter Rise a level of personality that it wouldn't have otherwise. Players may have missed that the game's guild master, Hojo, is the one who creates the art for each of the request posters. There's even a little segment in the end-game credits that shows him working on them!

7 Hinoa and Minoto Resonate With Elder Dragons

In Monster Hunter Rise, we learn that there are several monsters with human-level intelligence. These are the Elder Dragons, and they appear at multiple points in the story. When they arrive, the game's Hub Maiden's Hinoa and Minoto can resonate with them. At first, the dragons use Minoto as a way to speak directly to the player character, but over time, Hinoa can interpret their speech. The pair serve as a conduit for Wyvern communication, and their eyes will glow whenever they link with the beasts.

6 Hamon The Blacksmith Was Once A Hunter Himself With Elder Fugen

Whenever hunters need a new piece of gear or a shiny new weapon, there's no better place to go than the Smithy. This game's blacksmith is Hamon, a weathered warrior with his own history of fighting monsters. While it's easy to tell that he's been a fighter in the past, you may be surprised to hear who he teamed up with.

Back when he was young, Hamon hunted together with the village's Elder Fugen. Together, the pair were a force to be reckoned with, and while they don't actively hunt monsters today, they use their skills to help the new generation of hunters perfect the craft in a handful of ways.

5 Buddy Handler Iori Is Hamon's Grandson

Fighting may be an integral part of the hunt, but your allies in battle are just as important. This is where Buddy Handler Iori comes in. The young boy is a master at raising the Palicos and Palamutes that become hunter companions, and he even lets players hire additional helpers for a small fee. He may not actively go out of his way to hunt, but he has his own history with the massive creatures. Iori is Hamon the Blacksmith's grandson and has undoubtedly heard a handful of stories from his grandfather. He's determined to help hunters deal with the rampage because of this, and though he's young, his buddies are a great asset to players and the village as a whole.

4 Felyne Chief Kogarashi Was Fugen's Palico

Another battle-hardened villager is Felyne Chief Kogarashi. This elder Palico used to hunt monsters as well but has taken a backseat to the action. Now he spends his days training young Palicos and Palamutes as often as he can. Back when he was a hunter, he fought alongside Elder Fugen, just like Hamon. Some of the most fearsome fighters the village has ever seen and use their skills to teach the current generation as best they can.

3 Master Utsushi Taught The Player Character

When Monster Hunter Rise begins, the player character is just about ready to take on his first hunt, only in need of a few tips before venturing out on their own. This is all thanks to Master Utsushi, the player's trainer. He takes his time teaching the rookie hunters the ropes. His hard work seems to have paid off; after just a few tutorials, players are ready to head off and slay beasts with ease.

Utsushi does appear every so often with courses to help the player master weapons and mechanics, but for most of the game, his work is done, and he can admire his handiwork. He's content, knowing he's raised the best hunter the village has seen in a generation.

2 Rondine Isn't From Kamura Village.

Most residents of Kamura village were born and raised there, but there is an exception to this. Rondine, one of the merchants in the game, was not born in Kamura. She hails from a land far outside of the island's borders. Her outfit, armor, and supplies are all indicators that she's from a land far away, as they stray from the norms set by the villagers in Kamura. She's come in search of business and is willing to trade with players who have enough points or cash to purchase her wares.

1 Minoto, Hinoa, Hojo, and Kagero Are Wyverians

Monster Hunter Rise NPCs

Ever wonder why certain villagers have pointy ears? These are standout traits of a race known as Wyverians. This Monster Hunter race makes an appearance in the most recent entry as well. Several of the game's NPCs are members of this race. They were originally the first Monster Hunters and possessed a longer life span than humans. They even have an enhanced connection with nature. This incredible group of people has taken a more supportive role after the Hunter's Guild was formed but is an essential component to monster suppression and village protection.
