Monster Hunter Rise is all about collecting materials, and by the time players get to high rank, they should be pretty good at it. That said, players will inevitably run into a material requirement that they just don't know how to get. Oftentimes the name of the material is a good indicator of where to find it, but that isn't the case for the Piercing Claws. Going by name alone, one might assume that any wyvern with claws would be able to drop it, but there are actually a specific subset of wyverns that players must hunt to find these items.

For starters, the Piercing Claws item is a High Rank material, so Low Rank Monster Hunter Rise players shouldn't worry about finding one. Instead, just continue to progress through the story until high rank quests are unlocked. For those players that are in High Rank already and have gear upgrades that require this material, there are five monsters that drop it.

To find Piercing Claws, players will need to hunt Jagras, Izuchi, Uroktor, Ludroth, or Rachnoids. It's important to note that this means the smaller variant of these monsters, ie. Jagras not Great Jagras and Izuchi not Great Izuchi. If players kill and carve any of these five High Rank small monsters, they should have a chance of receiving Piercing Claws as a reward. Typically speaking, the Uroktor found in the Lava Caverns have a higher drop rate for this item, albeit only by a couple percent.

To make farming these materials easier, players should look for quests to slay these monsters. Any High Rank quest in which the target is "Slay X Jagras" or "Slay X Uroktor" for example will do nicely. Not only are these monsters more plentiful during such quests, but players also have a good chance to get more Piercing Claws in the quest rewards after completing it. Doing one of these a few times should be more than enough to get however many Piercing Claws the player needs for their upgrades. When farming this item as part of a quest, Rachnoids and Ludroth are actually the better option.

Piercing Claws are used in a variety of High Rank gear, especially early on, so players will want to stock up on a few. During the initial High Rank quests before the player has upgraded their gear, it is well worth the time to hunt any Jagras, Uroktor, Ludroth, Izuchi, or Rachnoids that the player happens to come across, as this may be enough to get the Piercing Claws needed later.
