Monster Hunter Rise is the newest entry in the long-running Monster Hunter series, but a ton of features integral to the series' roots remain intact. While brand new elements like Monster Hunter Rise's Wirebugs and Palamutes keep the experience feeling fresh, tried and true elements, such as material gathering and weapon crafting are largely the same.

As such, some new players may feel a bit overwhelmed when certain weapons require specific materials that players haven't encountered yet, such as the Quality Fins needed to craft certain high rank weapons. Thankfully, finding and gathering Quality Fins in Monster Hunter Rise only takes a bit of knowledge, some preparation, and a fair bit of luck.

Gaining Access to Quality Fins

First and foremost, Quality Fins are classified as high rank materials. That means that players will have to progress through Monster Hunter Rise's multiplayer-focused area, the Gathering Hub, to begin gathering Quality Fins. To gain access to High Rank quests, players will need to achieve Hunter Rank 4 or higher. Alternatively, once players progress far enough in Monster Hunter Rise's Village Quests offered up by Hinoa, players can take on a quest that will bypass them to High Rank in the Gathering Hub.

For where to actually find Quality Fins, players will have to locate a small monster known as the Delex. Delex can be found in the Sandy Plains location, usually swimming through areas with loose sand in groups of four or five. Players who have unlocked the Sandy Plains Sub Camp locations can easily fast travel to Sub Camp 2 to reach Zone 9. Usually, a group of Zelex can be found swimming through the sands in Zone 9, making it an easy spot to continuously farm Delex in the hopes of gathering Quality Fins.

Finding and Gathering Quality Fins

However, before heading out to find Delex in the Sandy Plains, players should make sure they bring along either Flash Bombs or Sonic Bombs. Delex swim through the sand very quickly and can be very hard to hit if they are not stunned beforehand. Using helpful items like Flash or Sonic Bombs near the Delex will knock them out of the sand and will make attacking and killing them much easier. Additionally, if there happens to be an upsurge or outbreak of Delex, it can make gathering Quality Fins that much easier.

So, after players have acquired either type of bomb, they can fast travel to Sub Camp 2 and head to Zone 9, or can alternatively ride Monster Hunter Rise's Palamute companions to locations with loose sand. Finally, locate the swimming Delex, stun them, and begin attacking. Killing them should be easy enough considering they are small monsters, despite being in high rank quests. Quality Fins have a drop rate of 40%, alongside Monster Guts, and the rare Acute Fang. After a bit of time, players should have enough Quality Fins to forge or upgrade weapons like the Frozen Speartuna II or the Delex Cleaver.

Monster Hunter Rise is available for Nintendo Switch, with a PC version slated to come out in 2022.
