In Monster Hunter Rise, Elder Fugen tells of a recurring event that has plagued Kamura Village for many years: the Rampage. This disaster draws hordes of monsters to invade Kamura Village, seemingly without reason. Fifty years ago, the Rampage nearly wiped out all of Kamura Village. Since then, defenses have been built to avoid annihilation. Elder Fugen believes that another Rampage will come, but this time every villager and hunter is prepared to face the horde.

The Rampage mission acts as a tower defense game, in which hunters deploy weapons and villagers to combat the waves of monsters. Each horde consists of several monsters and one Major Threat that leads them. Defeating the Major Threat will progress to the next wave, until players reach the end where they face one last Major Threat. This game mode is very difficult in High-Rank, but hunters can take these crucial steps to succeed.

10 Stock Up On Supplies

Kagero The Merchant At His Stand

As with any mission, hunters should be sure they are fully stocked with items. Health Potions, Antidotes, and Energy Drinks are necessities that will keep hunters alive during the Rampage. To effectively deal with a variety of challenging enemies, hunters should also bring items that can deter monsters or boost allies.

Items like barrel bombs can turn the tide of battle in favor of hunters. Placing a couple of Mega Barrel Bombs near a monster and lighting them will deal massive amounts of damage. Items that inflict harmful effects, such as Flash bombs, can be helpful as well. Blinding a monster will allow the hunter to attack free of detection. Hunter should also utilize items that boost their stats, such as Mega Demondrugs.

9 Eat Dango

Yomogi The Chef And Her Palicoes

Bunny Dango is a delicious treat in Kamura Village, made by Yomogi and her Palicoes. This delicious dumpling can help a hunter on missions. Players can choose from a wide selection of Dango, each of which grants a unique buff and a stat increase to hunters.

It is important that hunters eat Dango before engaging in a Rampage. The selection of Dango that hunters pick should provide buffs that will help them endure long, difficult battles. Sets usually focus on enhancing a hunter's offensive or defensive capability, depending on their role. For example, a set that focuses on offense includes Dizzybloom, Blastslash, and Mint-iature Dango. Players should think about what Dango will benefit them most in Rampage.

8 Tactically Place Installations

Hunter Manning A Hunting Installation

Hunter installations are defenses that protect Kamura Village. Hunters can deploy numerous defenses that fall into several categories. The main three include mountable, auto, and limited. Mountable-type installations require a person to manually control them, while auto-types target monsters independently. Limited-type installations can only be used once, but are very effective.

Each type of Installation functions better against specific monsters or scenarios. Mountable Installations are more powerful than auto-types, and hunters can utilize them when facing a monster that is out of reach. Auto Installations, despite their limited power, can damage monsters alone while hunters face their enemies head-on. Limited installations, with their single use, deal huge damage. Appropriately designating Installations can make or break the mission.

7 Call On Allies

The People Of Kamura Together

Even when hunters play Rampage alone, they still have the villagers of Kamura by their side. Elder Fugen, Hinoa, and Minoto are a few familiar faces that will aid hunters during the Rampage. Kamura's warriors can be deployed in battle as limited-type installations. The warriors of Kamura have prepared their entire lives for this event, and are more than capable of slaying monsters.

These powerful units should be used only when it is absolutely necessary. Hunters should not send out Elder Fugen for a wave that they can deal with on their own. However, players shouldn't be afraid to rely on allies in times of need. If the odds are in the monsters' favor, call upon comrades.

6 Improve The Stronghold

Hunter Fighting Bishaten In The Stronghold

The Stronghold is Kamura's main line of defense, where hunters can set up installations and fend off the monster horde. When players first take control of the Stronghold, they will only have access to basic installations. Hunters can level up their Stronghold t0 acquire new and powerful installations as the Rampage goes on.

Players can level up the Stronghold through a variety of Sub-assignments given to them. These special missions can be simple tasks like repelling with cannons, or difficult feats such as slaying an Apex Predator. Regardless of the mission, hunters should do their best to complete them and upgrade their Stronghold.

5 Use The Counter Gong

A Hunter Ringing The Counter Gong

The Counter Gong is a special installation that is set up in each area of the Stronghold. The Counter Gong can strengthen hunters, turning battles in their favor. When the gong is struck, it will send out a Counter Signal that will greatly boost their attack for a limited time.

While players have the option to take down the Counter Gong, they should never do so. Hunters cannot reinstall the Counter Gong, so if it is taken down players will lose the ability to send Counter Signals. Without the Counter Gong, players will find Rampages to be much more difficult to manage.

4 Adapt To Battles

Monster Horde Rampaging

Hunters will face a variety of threats during the Rampage. Each wave will send out different hordes of monsters, requiring players to rethink their approach to deal with them effectively. Hunters may revise their fighting style or devise a new strategy to handle the monsters, but the most crucial change requires hunters to alter their installation setup.

Each Installation has a certain function meant to handle certain monsters. Instead of maintaining the same installation setup, hunters should use their preparation time to make it more effective against the oncoming horde.

3 Target The Greatest Threat

Apex Rathalos

In Rampages, monsters are assigned specific roles to perform during their siege. There are three monster types: Stalkers, Targeters, and Gate Crashers. Stalkers are fast monsters that focus on attacking hunters keeping them distracted. Targeters utilize ranged attacks to hit hunters from afar. Gate Crashers usually ignore hunters and focus on destroying the gate, which will lead to mission failure.

Hunters should understand the danger of each monster type, and which one they should prioritize. Usually, Stalkers do not pose much of a threat to the mission, but should be monitored carefully. Targeters' attacks can be a hindrance to hunters as they defend the gates. Gate Crashers, meanwhile, have the potential to end the mission if left unchecked. It's best for hunters to target Gate Crashers, then Targeters, and lastly Stalkers.

2 Use An Effective Build

Hunter In Sinister Armor

Builds refer to a set of weapons, armor, and skills that strengthen certain aspects of a hunter. There are numerous possibilities for a build, but certain sets do better in specific situations. A build that focuses on ice damage will not do well against a Goss Harag, but a fire elemental build will. In Rampages, hunters will face a variety of monsters that they cannot counter using limiting sets.

It's best to choose armors, weapons, and abilities that help hunters deal with a variety of enemies. Armor that grants skills like Blight Resistance can protect against every negative effect. Rampage Weapons offer more Rampage slots and customization that hunters can use to make devastating attacks. Switch Skills that hunters choose should fit their playstyle to make them as effective as possible.

1 Do Not Fight Alone

Group Of Hunters Fighting Magnamalo

While hunters can complete Rampages single-handedly, it is much easier to do them with friends. There are many ways that hunter must prepare, and many monsters they must handle. With allies by their side, these tasks become more manageable.

A larger party also allows players to focus on performing specific roles in battle. Hunters can divide their group to perform certain tasks like slaying Gate Breakers, manning Hunting Installations, or weakening monsters. Having others to defend also grants players time to heal, eat, or sharpen their weapons. Don't be a lone wolf – join other players in the fight against the hordes.
