Monster Hunter Rise came out across the world on March 26, 2021. The action RPG video game was developed and published by Capcom and is exclusive (right now) to the Nintendo Switch. It is the sixth mainline installment in the Monster Hunter series.

In the game, the player explores several different locations while tracking down and taking down monsters. The maps are not necessarily huge but walking back and forth and around them does take time. Fortunately, there is a feature that alleviates this: sub-camps. They can discover and establish sub-camps that allow the player to immediately teleport back to them or another.

When a sub-camp is located, the player gets a request from Kagero the Merchant (only after going back to the village). Unfortunately, sub-camps are not instantly unlocked upon finding. This task will be either killing a bunch of small monsters or bringing him some items. But once they complete the request, the sub-camp is open for business.

Going forward, the player can fast-travel to any sub-camp location via wirebug. That being said, they cannot grab the free quest items or deliver key items at the sub-camps. Still, items from storage are accessible and equipment can be swapped at all sub-camps.

8 Northern Shrine Ruins

Monster Hunter Rise Sub-Camp Shrine Ruins

The player will find just one sub-camp in the Shrine Ruins. It is located in the northern part of the map, right above Area 10 but not quite near Area 12. They must climb up the rock pillar until the sub-camp is revealed, sitting on the side of the mountain.

Before unlocking it though, the player must compete "Shrine Ruins Sub-Camp Security," a request given by Kagero. To fulfill this task, they need to kill eight Izuchi in the Shrine Ruins.

7 Western Frost Islands

The first sub-camp in the Frost Islands is in the center of the map, west of Area 7 but east of Area 6. It sits right in between, accessible through climbing or maneuvering through the narrow walls of rocks near the water.

After completing Kagero's request, "Frost Islands Sub-Camp Security," the sub-camp will unlock. The player must kill eight Zamite in the Frost Islands to fulfill this task.

6 Northeastern Frost Islands

The second sub-camp in the Frost Islands is in the northeastern part of the map, right in between Areas 8 and 10. It is located above the water on a cliff.

If the player completes Kagero’s request, "Frost Islands Sub-Camp Materials," the sub-camp will be unlocked. They need to deliver two Warm Pelts, which are carved from Anteka (found in the plains in the Frost Islands), and four Monster Bone S, which are carved from any small monsters.

5 Southwestern Sandy Plains

One of the sub-camps in the Sandy Plains is in the southwestern part, above Area 2 but below Area 7. It is past the ruins.

The way to unlock this sub-camp is by following and completing Kagero's request, "Sandy Plains Sub-Camp Security." This means killing eight Kestodon in the Sandy Plains.

4 Northeastern Sandy Plains

Another sub-camp in the Sandy Plains can be found in the northeastern part, to the right of Area 8 and below Area 9. Here, the player will find an oasis surrounded by rocks. There is an entrance but it is possible to reach with climbing.

Kagero will request a Lagombi Pelt and two Monster Bone M from them. Lagombi is actually found in the Frost Islands and the Pelt is acquired through carving. Monster Bone M are taken from dead medium-sized monsters, which are just weaker large monsters. This task is called "Sandy Plains Sub-Camp Materials."

3 Northern Flooded Forest

Monster Hunter Rise Sub-Camp Flooded Forest

There is one sub-camp located in the Flooded Forest. It is above Area 9, below Area 11, and west of Area 6. Basically, right smack in the middle between these three areas. The player will find a mountain with vines; climbing them will lead them to the sub-camp.

To unlock this sub-camp, they are required to Kagero’s request, "Flooded Forest Sub-Camp Security." This is done by killing eight Wroggi in the Flooded Forest.

2 Northern Lava Caverns

Monster Hunter Rise Sub-Camp Lava Caverns 1

The first of the sub-camps in the Lava Caverns is discovered in the northern part of the map, above Area 10 and below Area 11 (and west of Area 14). It is hidden away in a clearing.

Unlocking the sub-camp means doing what Kagero says. His request, "Lava Caverns Sub-Camp Security," requires killing eight Uroktor in the Lava Caverns.

1 Western Lava Caverns

Monster Hunter Rise Sub-Camp Lava Caverns 2

The second of the sub-camps in the Lava Caverns is stumbled upon in the western part of the map, west of Area 7 and below Area 6 (but not quite near Area 3). It is located near the ruins.

If the player wants to unlock this sub-camp, they need to satisfy Kagero's request, "Lava Cavern Sub-Camp Materials." To do this, the player must deliver a Tetranadon Hide and two Monster Bone L. While Tetranadon is found in the Lava Caverns, it actually appears more often in the Shrine Ruins or even the Frost Islands. After killing one, they must carve out a Hide. The two Monster Bone L are carved from large monsters, which are technically stronger large monsters.
