Monster Hunter Rise gives players access to 14 different weapon types, and with each one having its own moveset and combos, it can be quite a daunting task to get familiar with all of them. For players looking to learn all about the Hammer, this guide will go in-depth on the weapon and how players can use it to its full potential.

The Hammer is quite the powerhouse of a weapon in the Monster Hunter series, and although it's slow to handle, it can cause some pretty devasting attacks that can leave monsters in the dust if used correctly.

Hammer Controls and Combos

The basic controls for the Hammer are as follows:

  • X - Overhead Smash
  • A - Side Smash
  • Hold ZR - Charge
  • While charging ZR, let go to do a Charged Attack
  • A while charging - Charge Switch

Holding down ZR to charge your attack will go through three different charge levels, depicted by a glowing aura around the player. Players will want to hold it for as long as they can before unleashing an attack to do max damage. Players can also press A while charging to increase the damage level of the attack.

Some useful combos for the Hammer are as follows:

  • Basic Combo - X - X - X
  • Charged Side Blow Combo - ZR - X - X
  • Monster-Stunning Combo - ZR (Charge level 2) - A - X - X
  • Spinning Bludgeon Follow-ups (Release ZR at charge level 3 while moving) - Hold ZR - Move left stick with ZR - and then while the player is spinning, use X to do a follow-up during the first spin, second spin, third spin, or fourth and fifth.

Hammer Silkbind Attacks

As for the Hammer's Silkbind attacks, there are two different abilities that players will have access to by default. These attacks will be able to be switched out once players progress through the campaign of Monster Hunter Rise. Silkbind attacks can only be used if players have Wirebugs available to them, which are shown on the bottom of the screen. Players will have two of them at the start of every hunt, but they can find a third one out in the field, but it will disappear after a short amount of time.

  • Silkbind Spinning Bludgeon - This Silkbind move can be performed by holding down ZL and then pressing the X button while the hammer is out. This move uses up one Wirebug and sends the hunter flinging forward to unleash a strong attack. This move can also be charged up to deal even more damage.
  • Impact Crater - While this move can take a few seconds to fully perform, it can deal massive damage if it connects to a monster successfully. It can be done by pressing ZL and then A and it uses up two Wirebugs instead of just one. It sends the hunter high up in the sky and then they drop down to pull off a devasting attack. This move can also be charged up.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC port is expected to release sometime in early 2022.
