The endless search for better weapons and armor is a key element of Monster Hunter Rise. This will often involve farming resources from mining outcrops, strange plants, or capturing creatures. Some of the hardest to get resources are ones that can only be obtained by taking on some of the game's most dangerous monsters.

Players who want to get Stoutbone or Great Stoutbone in Monster Hunter Rise will need to do just that. Stoutbone and Great Stoutbone can only be obtained by hunting specific monsters in High Rank quests. These are the toughest hunts in the game, and players will need to be well prepared to take them on.

To get access to High Rank content, players will need to complete Village Quests until they get to 6 Star level and then complete three special licensing quests. The Hunter's Guild needs to ensure that players setting out on High Rank hunts are up to the task, so all three licensing quests must be completed.

Stoutbone will drop from the following monsters on High Rank hunts:

  • Arzuros
  • Lagombi
  • Volvidon
  • Tetranadon
  • Bishaten

Stoutbone can be gotten as a target reward, as a reward for carving the body, or as a capture reward, so players will have a few chances to get them depending on how they approach the hunts. Great Stoutbone is even rarer and is a target reward for capturing or killing Rajang. Rajang appears in High Rank content at Shrine Ruins, Flooded Forest, Frost Islands, Lava Caverns, and Sandy Plains. All these creatures can be tough to fight, so players may have a better time hunting them in the multiplayer Hub mode.

Stoutbone and Great Stoutbone are needed to make some of the best armor and weapons in the game, so players will want to farm as much as they can. They are actually such common crafting materials for high-end weapons that players are almost guaranteed they will need to farm some, no matter what weapon tree they are exploring.

The trick to the late game in Monster Hunter Rise is efficiency. The faster players can finish hunts, the more resources they can farm in the least amount of time. While obvious elements like having good weapons and armor are helpful, it is also a good idea to unlock all the sub-camp locations in the game. This will allow players to quickly travel around the map, cutting down on their time spent on hunts.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available on Nintendo Switch, and a PC port is coming in 2022.
