One of the major appeals of the Monster Hunter series is that players can upgrade their weapons and forge new armor sets by defeating large, terrifying monsters and then skinning their bodies for parts. Some of the upgrade materials are harder to obtain than others, and one of these items is called a Mountshroom. It turns out, though, that these special mushrooms cannot be gathered in the field, but instead have to be gathered by a different method entirely. This guide will walk Monster Hunter Rise players through that process so they can get Mountshrooms easily.

The first thing that players will need to do make sure that they have access to Kamura Village's Buddy Plaza, which is that forest area that's to the right of Hamon the Blacksmith. This area is host to many different functions in Monster Hunter Rise and mostly revolves around the game's pet partners, the Palicos and Palamutes. By speaking to the NPCs here, players can hire new buddies, go to the training room, send pets to train themselves, and most importantly, use the Meowcenaries to collect rare items and materials.

Players will need to speak to Felyne Chief Kogarashi to enter the Meowcenaries menu and from here, players will be able to send their pets out on a little quest of their own. The more pets players send on these quests, the higher the chance is for more materials to be gathered. Now, in order to obtain Mountshrooms via this method, players will need to send their animals to the Shrine Ruins.

Players will need to choose a path for the pets to go on and players will want to send them on a path that features an image of a sparkly mushroom. The mushroom won't always be available, so players will need to keep using the Meowcenaries until it pops up. The sparkles signify that the items gathered will be rarer than usual.

Once the path is chosen, the chief will make players choose the buddies that they want to send out on the quest and players will want to always send four of them whenever possible to get the most out of it. If players have an item called a Lagniapple, they can use one to further increase the rewards. Gamers will also need 150 Kamura Points to use the help of the Mewocenaries, which is a resource acquired by completing quests.

The Meowcenaries will fully complete the expedition once players finish a few quests of their own, either via the Hub or the village quests. Once the Meowcenaries come back from their destination, a notification will appear on the player's screen to let them know to check out the Buddy Plaza to reap the rewards.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC port of the game is expected to launch in early 2022.
