Capcom has a major hit on its hand's thanks to the success of Monster Hunter Rise. The latest entry in the Monster Hunter series became the fourth best-selling 2021 game in its debut month, despite releasing at the very tail-end of March.

To celebrate Monster Hunter Rise, the official Monster Hunter Twitter account has been tweeting out loads of concept art. Now, Capcom has shown off some more new Monster Hunter Rise concept art of the hulking Tetranadon, as well as the sleep-inducing leviathan, Somnacanth.

Tetranadon's concept art comes with three new sketches showing off various early designs for the platypus-esque beast. One of the designs shows a much grumpier-looking monster, with bright red feet, a hand-like tail, and a large crown covering its face. Another piece shows the Tetranodon with a much sharper face and beak with a tail resembling that of a tadpole. The final piece of art shows the Tetranadon with a much more turtle-like appearance, complete with a shell on its back and no beak. This Monster Hunter Rise concept art looks amazing, detailing the unique anatomy of each design and showing each of them in different poses.

Moving onto the Somnacanth, there was quite a lot of variation in the creature's initial design as well. Players who have faced the Somnacanth in Monster Hunter Rise know just how elegant and frightening the leviathan can look, but some of these designs give the final look a run for its money.

The first sees the creature with a pink color scheme while retaining much of the anatomy of the original. The second design, however, makes the Somnacanth much more imposing thanks to its spikey appearance and purple hue Overall, these early designs really highlight just how much effort and variation comes about during the initial design period of game development.

Monster Hunter Rise is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
