First released back in March of this year, Monster Hunter Rise brought the monster tracking, strategizing, and slaying experience to the Nintendo Switch to the delight of fans eager for their next hunt. The content does not appear to be slowing down, as Capcom has announced two new collaborations from rather disparate franchises.

Earlier this week Capcom streamed its conference at the Tokyo Game Show, which it dubbed the "Capcom Online Program," showcasing its future plans for Monster Hunter Rise. The stream had many surprises, and even a live musical performance at one point, and shared several pieces of news, including details on Rise's upcoming Sunbreak expansion. Alongside this, Capcom also released several tweets recapping or revealing even more news, including several collaborations with properties including Sonic the Hedgehog and Ghosts 'N Goblins Resurrection.

Monster Hunter is no stranger to crossovers, even from third-party properties. Earlier this month players could take Megaman's faithful robotic canine Rush into the fray with a cosmetic item for their palamute, the player's own friendly dog. The Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration is especially timely, as Capcom clarified on its Twitter account that the project was made to celebrate Sonic's thirty-year anniversary. While there isn't clarification on what this collaboration will bring at the time of this writing, fans of the blue blur should be sure to keep their eyes and ears out for whatever Capcom is planning.

The Ghosts 'N Goblins Resurrection collaboration can be considered an added bonus that some might have not expected, being a much less well-known property. But it is a Capcom production, so it makes sense that it might want to use the opportunity to spotlight a comparatively more modest property that players might not be familiar with.

Released in February of this year on the Nintendo Switch and then to other platforms in June, Ghosts 'N Goblins Resurrection is a platform game that sees players assuming the role of the knight Arthur as he takes on legions of the undead. The tweet from Capcom was kind enough to give a look at what specifically it was working on for the collaboration: an armor for the player's hunter that will make them resemble Arthur himself. While the aesthetic is certainly a clash with the game's style, games in the Monster Hunter franchise are no strangers to off-the-wall crossovers.

Whatever Capcom has planned next for Monster Hunter Rise, if history is any teacher, it's sure to defy expectations.

Monster Hunter Rise is out now on the Nintendo Switch, and a PC port is slated to launch in early 2022.
