Monster Hunter Rise has a variety of unique and often colorful armor sets for players to craft. These sets each have five pieces which can be mixed and matched to create the look and skill set that players desire. One thing that helps with making the look more cohesive is the ability to change the color of certain parts of armor pieces. The way this is handled in Monster Hunter Rise is a little bit different to the way it worked in past games, however.

Players will not have the ability to change their armor pigment until they reach high rank. In order to reach high rank, players will have to reach the 4 star quests in the hub. There are no high rank village quests. For the single player minded, it is possible to do the hub quests solo, and while they can initially take a little more time than usual to complete alone, eventually the time difference between single player and multiplayer is fairly negligible.

Once players have reached high rank, they can then go to their item box and select appearance settings and then armor pigment. However, players should know that even once they've reached high rank and have the ability to change he color of their armor, there are a few things they cannot do. They cannot change the color of low rank armor. High rank armor will need to be crafted before it can be customized. When armor pigmentation is first unlocked, players cannot make their own colors, only select from a preset selection of colors. As they progress through high rank though, they will be able to customize their color choices with the sliders such as those found during character creation.

What makes Monster Hunter Rise unique in the way that it handles armor pigment is that each piece of armor actually has two portions that can be colored. This allows players to give each piece two different colors if they so choose, opening up the creative prospects even more. However, like the initial ability to change armor pigment, and the ability to to choose colors from the slider, the ability to edit both parts of a particular piece of armor is initially locked. This particular feature is going to take the longest to unlock as it requires beating the final boss to unlock.

There's also no word yet on a rainbow pigment in the game. In previous games, there was an unlockable pigment that would cause the colored portion of the armor to shift between various colors. The feature was in Monster Hunter World, but has either not been discovered yet in Rise or isn't currently in the game.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC release is slated for 2022.
