A new mechanic to the long running series, Switch Skills are a great addition for those who like to keep their options open in battle. This new feature offers a different look, and replaces some of the moves that players might not find as useful.

Some of these moves stand out among the rest, all but replacing the original move and helping the player get to the top of the master ranks. No matter how gamers choose to play, Switch Moves come in handy throughout the entire game and make taking on the toughest creatures in Monster Hunter: Rise a better experience.

10 Melody Mode: Echo

mhrise switch

This switch skill is a specialized move that players will have to get used to. They can't just grip it and rip it for some easy damage. Echo will let the player stockpile notes, hoarding them for later use. Not only does it drop the need for a specific note, it can apply buffs along the way.

While it can be a great effect and takes away the worry of being staggered, it can also be hard to figure out where and when to use. The awkward use means most players will give up before realizing just how effective it can be.

9 Metsu Shoryugeki

Turning defense into an offense is always a great tactic, especially with the sword and shield at the player's disposal. This move will deliver an uppercut to the enemy using the shield, allowing for damage on the way down.

If the player has good timing and some button control, this move can hit multiple times and deliver increasing damage with every repeat. Holding guard right as the move starts lets the hunter fire off more shots, opening up opportunity for big damage.

8 Compressed Finishing Charge

Many players don't choose this switch because of its low instant damage, but that's a mistake. This move won't use up any resources or take a long time to build up to. Furthermore, it doesn't put players in a terrible position if they miss.

Taking an unbreakable stance, the character will release an elemental attack. There's no need to wait for an extended recharge, and it's easily strung into a combo. This makes it more convenient than a lot of other popular switches.

7 Spirit Reckoning Combo

Squeezing more damage into a smaller amount of time can only be beneficial, even if it hits a smaller area. This combo also brings a new layer to a weapon whose main way of attack is countering, allowing players to be more aggressive and tackle the enemy head on.

Swinging in a vertical line, the target should be locked in before throwing the first blow. When it hits, this combo delivers much more damage than the original and sets up for some flashier play.

6 Fanning Maneuver

MH rise move

This skill provides a great mobility boost, letting players juke the enemy while planting themselves in a great position to attack. The Fanning Maneuver sends the player from left to right at rapid speed using the wirebug, boosting the players attack for small time after.

One of the best aspects to this skill is the ability to shoot while the transition is happening, creating a great balance between dodging and countering. Overall, the Fanning Maneuver might be one of the most helpful switches in the game.

5 Dash Breaker

Mh Rise - switch move

While it doesn't have the flash of some other moves, Dash Breaker is an important switch that lets the player set up any number of great attacks. It will prevent players from being pushed back. This can help them move freely around the battlefield, without worrying about interruption.

Whether the player is quickly retreating, blitzing in for an attack, or simply positioning for another move, Dash Breaker is a solid foundation that will support any play style.

4 Drawn Double Slash

Drawn Double Slash's power comes from its simplicity. This switch skill can fire off two attacks while the player's weapon is still in its sheath. This not only gives players better damage, but shortens the time it will take to counter.

While it's hard to combine with a lot of moves due to weapons position, the Drawn Double Slash will earn its place when the player caught off guard. It deals big damage without even having to take a weapon out of its sheath.

3 Absolute Power Shot

This skill brings in a lot more power at the cost of stamina, a big advantage that fighting at range with the bow allows. Taking players out of the immediate danger zone and giving them more power to work with, the Absolute Power Shot is a keeper.

When it comes to aerial combat, the already high damage will skyrocket. Peppering in this tiring move throughout a fight will cut the time and threats in half.

2 Soaring Wyvern Blade

This switch skill is a nasty move that has the potential for devastating damage, rising up from the floor with a powerful slash. It will take the enemy by surprise, giving players the chance to perform a forward slash mid-air and inflicting blast damage when it hits.

The sneaky combination is both easy to pull off and destructive with the right timing. It's a combination that makes a move worth switching for.

1 Feral Demon Mode

Taking an already impressive power buff and pushing it to its limits, the character becomes an all-out offensive powerhouse that even deals damage with their dodge. It comes in useful when the player is in a dire situation and needs to take out the enemy quickly.

Using Feral Demon Mode at the beginning of a difficult battle is a great way to get a head start on the enemy. If players can squeeze enough damage in, they might end the fight altogether without having to use their normal form.
