This year has been big for Monster Hunter as the giant monster-slaying franchise welcomed its newest main series title, Monster Hunter Rise, and a sequel to the popular spin-off Monster Hunter Stories. Rise has seen consistent updates in the eight months following the game's release with a massive expansion titled Sunbreak scheduled to release next year. Since the expansion was officially announced during the Fall 2021 Nintendo Direct, Capcom has been slowly drip-feeding informations to eager fans of the franchise and a recent rumor suggests more reveals will be coming within the next few weeks.

Monster Hunter has grown into one of Capcom's biggest franchises in recent years on the back of the massive success of games like 2018's Monster Hunter World and Rise earlier this year. Both games have been well supported by Capcom with World and Rise receiving frequent updates adding a plethora of free content as well as each game receiving substantial paid expansions in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Rise's upcoming Sunbreak expansion. Now, according to a prominent leaker, more Monster Hunter news is apparently being planned for the 2021 Game Awards.

Prominent leaker Samus Hunter revealed earlier today that various reveals for the Monster Hunter franchise are likely planned for this year's Game Awards scheduled for December 9. There were no specific details given about the contents of these supposed reveals, but Monster Hunter Rise is currently nominated for several awards at the 2021 Game Awards and an announcement may coincide with one of those award presentations.

The tweet also referenced several other notable potential pieces of news from Nintendo to come through the last month of 2021. Samus Hunter reported that Splatoon 3, also announced during the Fall Nintendo Direct, would also be receiving more progress updates before the end of the year. Splatoon 3 and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak were just a couple highlights of an announcement-packed broadcast that confirmed Bayonetta 3, a new Kirby game, and several other games in development.

Monster Hunter Rise proved to be a massive success for Capcom as the franchise's first main series game to release on Nintendo Switch. The newest entry in the franchise has sold well over 7 million copies as of October and the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Rise's PC version in January will boost those stellar sales numbers further. With Sunbreak currently scheduled to release next summer and potentially more reveals for the franchise to come, Monster Hunter should look to continue its recent success well into the future.

Monster Hunter Rise is available now for Nintendo Switch. A PC version is scheduled to release on January 12, 2022.
