Netflix has revealed the first teaser trailer for the much-awaited South Korean adaptation of its popular original series Money Heist. The minute-and-a-half long teaser confirms the official title of the series as Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area and even reveals the official cast that will be a part of the heist crime drama.

The crime thriller Money Heist, which was originally produced in Spanish and titled La Casa De Papel, is among the most-watched shows on Netflix. With the popularity of Korean dramas on the rise, it only seemed like the most natural transition. The teaser for the upcoming series comes a month after the Money Heist series finale, but doesn’t confirm a release date.

The Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area teaser begins with Yoo Ji-tae, who is portraying the role of the gang’s mastermind Professor, looking over some documents. He then turns to look towards a wall where a number of face masks are hung, including the iconic Salvador Dalí mask from Netflix's Money Heist. Approaching the wall, the Professor extends his hand towards the mask, and the scene cuts off just before he grabs it. This could be an indication that the Korean adaptation changes the masks used.

Apart from the obvious connection to the original Money Heist series, the Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area teaser announced the star cast for the Korean adaptation as well. It offered a look at the task force that has been set up to stop the heist, led by Yunjin Kim's Seon Woojin. The actors joining the heist include Park Hae-soo as Berlin, Jun Jong-seo as Tokyo, Lee Won-jong as Moscow, Kim Ji-hoon as Denver, Jang Yoon-ju as Nairobi, Lee Hyun-Woo as Rio, Kim Ji-Hoon as Helsinki, and Lee Kyu-Ho as Oslo.

The official synopsis of the series, which was revealed by Netflix, confirms that it would be an adaptation of Money Heist, and not an exact replica. The main premise is the same, with the mastermind working with a talented crew to “pull off an unprecedented heist.” However, there will be some “unexpected twists” and there is a possibility that the plot might be adjusted based on the cultural expectations. The series is directed by Kim Hong-sun, who has worked on several Korean shows in the past 15 years.

Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area is currently in production at Netflix and is scheduled to make its debut in 2022.
