ModNation Racers was a charming racing title that came to both the PlayStation 3 and PSP early last year, meeting a fair amount of critical success for offering gamers virtually limitless gameplay through its customizable (and shareable) players, cards and tracks. The console version was developed by United Front Games, but the handheld version for the PSP was developed by SCE San Diego Studio.

Due to the game's popularity (and Sony exclusivity) it wasn't even remotely surprising when Sony announced a follow-up was coming to their new handheld, the PlayStation Vita, also being made by the talent at San Diego Studio. The game was shown off at this year's E3, and not only did the game look very good on the portable, but it seemed to make great use of the PS Vita's front and rear touch options to create new tracks in seconds.

Flash forward to present day, and the wonderful people at SCE's San Diego Studio have decided to hold a contest for the game's loyal community to help coin the name for ModNation Racers on the PS Vita. For the lucky few who suggest names that the developers of the portable title think are good enough, they "just may want to hook you up with some cool ModNation goodies". Their words, not ours.

The official trailer for the game formerly known as ModNation Racers Vita can be seen below, and hopefully it will inspire some of our readers to think of an awesome name.

The extremely short amount of hands-on time I had with ModNation Racers at E3 was enough to make me excited for the PlayStation Vita, and even more excited for the game because of its great utilization of the new technology. San Diego Studio has confirmed that all of the user-created PS3 content available for the console version of the game will also be available for the launch of the currently-unnamed Vita version.

Those interested in entering what they believe to be "The Best Name Ever" for a chance to win some undoubtedly awesome freebies just need to head on over to the official PlayStation.Blog, log in to their PSN account, and comment on the announcement. Ready, Set, Go, readers!
