Sony has finally unveiled the title of ModNation Racers for the PlayStation Vita to be ModNation Racers: Road Trip. The publisher recently gave fans the opporutinity to come up with a name for the miniature sized kart racer in a contest and is said to be contacting the winners shortly for a number to deal out a number of “goodies.”

Road Trip is the second title in the ModNation Racers franchise and also the first title to be released on the Vita. The original title followed the “Play, Create, Share” mantra pioneered by LittleBigPlanet.

ModNation Racers: Road Trip had to beat out quite a few other creative names to claim the title of… well, the ModNation Racers Vita title. Here’s a list of some of the wacky names the game could have been:

  1. VitaMeataVegeModNation Racers
  2. Honey I Shrunk The Modnation Racers
  3. In-A-Gotta-Mod-Vita
  4. Steve
  5. Modnation Racers: Purple Monkey Dishwasher

While these names are certainly on the more creative side, Road Trip was probably the best one to avoid confusion. The name ‘Steve’ probably would have made a good choice as well, but then again, Steve Carrell would probably have sued due to some crazy trademark law.

ModNation Racers: Road Trip will bring the creative abilites of the original PS3 title to the Vita, though with controls built from the ground up for Sony’s portable device. This includes the ability to lay out basic tracks using the Vita’s touchscreen. The simple interface will allow users to create tracks on the fly, alleviating one criticism that LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers has commonly received.

ModNation Racers must have been quite the success for Sony if they’re interested in launching it as a Vita title. While the original PS3 release did have its faults it was still a very competent kart racer, as detailed in our review. Hopefully, if ModNation: Road Trip is successful PS3 kart racing fans will have more to look forward to in the near future, instead of spending every waking  hour jealous of Mario Kart.

ModNation Racers: Road Trip does not have a release date but should launch alongside the Vita in 2012.
