The newest season of Modern Warfare and Warzone has spiced up the multiplayer meta by adding two unique, powerful weapons into the game. The AS-VAL is an assault rifle with high recoil but great damage and rate of fire, making it a unique blend that fills a relatively empty niche in Call of Duty's array of weapons. While it will almost certainly be nerfed due to its excessive bullet penetration, it will still be a gun to look out for. The SP-R 208, on the other hand, may be even more interesting.

Many of the "sniper rifles" in Modern Warfare and Warzone are actually anti-material rifles- large caliber weapons meant to take out armor, vehicles, and explosives from a safe distance rather than aiming for human targets. The SP-R 208 is a more realistic sniper rifle, based on the M24 SWS, a version of the Remington 700 adopted as a Sniper Weapons System by the US armed forces. It may be in the DMR class, but it packs a serious punch that puts it in competition with the heavy-hitters in the Sniper section of the armory.

The SP-R is an extremely versatile weapon, great for quick-scoping in standard multiplayer or taking out foes from across huge distances in Warzone. It has a wealth of attachments to choose from, great variety in possible builds, and solid performance no matter how it is configured. A few key attachments are far more useful than others, and there are some useful builds that stand out by taking full advantage of all the gun's strengths.

SP-R 208 Attachments for Modern Warfare and Warzone

The SP-R shares some standard attachments with other weapons of its ilk. The tried-and-true monolithic suppressor is the best muzzle attachment, and the Commando foregrip, Bipod, and Ranger foregrip are largely up to preference. The gun has one laser sight, the Tac laser, which improves mobility, and one unique scope, the SP-R 28mm, which offers 7X zoom a fairly standard sniper scope. The more interesting attachments come in for the gun's other components.

Four different barrels are available to play with. The SP-R 26" barrel is the best one, with increased range and lower recoil. Until it's unlocked, the ZLR VeraTwist 9.6 will suffice for some extra range. The ZLR Asp boosts ADS speed and movement, making it great for quick-scope builds, while the XRK 208 Dragoon acts as an integral monolithic suppressor.

As for stocks, the XRK SP-TAC 208 Ultimate improves both ADS and aim stability, the FSS Virtuoso pro improves recoil and aim-walking, the XRK SP-LITE 208 Blitz is the best for ADS speed and mobility, and the ZLR SP-R Overseer lowers recoil while improving stability. Every stock is useful depending on preference: the first two are both good for balanced builds, but the latter two are the best for either high-speed play or long-range accuracy, respectively.

The ammunition choices are at the heart of what makes the SP-R so powerful. 10-round magazines are good for balanced multiplayer builds because the standard ammo has great stopping power at pretty much any range, taking enemies out with a single torso shot. However, for true sniper-level punch, .338 Lapua ammo boosts damage across the board and improves range. It is perfect for one-shot builds at any distance. The last attachment slot belongs to the bolt action, but there's only one real choice. The Sloan KR-600 Feather bolt makes cycling the action much faster for quicker follow-up shots.

In Warzone, ranged damage is the most important goal to work towards for any build. With a variable magnification sniper scope, Monolithic suppressor, SP-R 26" barrel, .338 Lapua rounds, and the Overseer stock, the SP-R will have minimal recoil, great damage, and range that can take enemies out from across the map. Replacing the stock with the Feather bolt can improve follow-up shots if needed. In standard multiplayer or Ground War, a VLK 3.0 optic, 26" barrel, Virtuoso stock, Feather bolt, and 10-round magazines will have much the same effect but be a bit more balanced.

A true balance build would include the ZLR VeraTwist barrel, VLK 3.0 optic, XRK SP-LITE 208 stock, 10-round magazines, and the Feather bolt. However, while leveling up the SP-R or just showing off, a solid quick-scope build is ideal. The Asp barrel, Tac laser, SP-LITE stock, .338 Lapua ammo, and Feather bolt will be perfect for dishing out blistering quick one-shots at any range. Replacing the Asp barrel with sleight of hand might be better for players who are more concerned with taking out many players in a row. The SP-R seems almost perfectly set up to be a great quick-scoping gun, but it's a great addition to Season 6 no matter how it's used.
