Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the latest in the Call of Duty series, and it is constantly experimenting with new and old things to shake up the series formula. There was a big update to Modern Warfare today that had many players chomping at the bit, expecting a certain announcement that has been a long time coming. They did not get it.

The big development in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that has players abuzz at the moment is a mysterious feature called Warzone, for which very little information has been officially revealed. There have, however, been many leaks about the mode, including the fact that it will be a battle royale.

The official announcement did not drop today, as expected. While there were changes in the March 3rd patch, there was nothing on the scale of Warzone, and players are getting restless for the game mode. Among other problems with the game that players are speaking out about, like Modern Warfare's spawn system, Warzone has players riled up. Despite the anticipation and the wealth of info about the mode, there is still no official drop date for Warzone.

The actual release today was for a Tomagunchi pet that players can purchase, hatch, and grow with kills. To make matters more confusing, the details of some of the Tomagunchi pets talk about them being the "keys to the warzone," leading some players  to think the pets unlocked the mode. One purchase later, and they determined that this was not the case. For the foreseeable future, players are stuck rewatching the leaked Warzone animations.

Activision subpoenaed Reddit to reveal the Warzone leaker, so it seems that the company is more concerned with damage control and getting things back on its schedule than it is actually releasing Warzone. It's an unfortunate situation and one that continues to frustrate fans.

Many fans were convinced that Warzone would release today, and the let-down is hitting hard, especially since not only has there been no release, there has not even been an announcement about the mode. It is enough to give fans a feeling that Activision isn't listening to them, which is a shame because fans have good ideas for improving Modern Warfare. Only time will tell when and where Warzone finally lands, and if it was worth the wait.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
