While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recently saw an update that added a new Gunfight variant and brought back a popular game mode, it seems that Infinity Ward still has plans to shake up Modern Warfare’s online multiplayer. In the January 7 update, Infinity Ward added a 1v1 gunfight variant to the game, but this Gunfight mode won’t replace the standard Gunfight mode that fans are used to. Additionally, the update also brought back the very popular Gun Game mode, which replaced the Grind playlist.

Now, Infinity Ward is teasing another returning game mode to Modern Warfare that fans haven’t seen for a while. That game mode is the Gunfight Tournament mode that was in the game for a limited time last November, until being removed for improvements. Now, Infinity Ward has stated on Twitter that the game mode will make a return to the game.

Infinity Ward responded to an inquiry from a user on Twitter yesterday about whether or not players could expect to see the Gunfight Tournament mode to make a return. Infinity Ward responded saying the game mode would make a return and that the team was fixing bugs along with adding new rewards to the game mode for players to receive. The game mode was in beta last November when it first arrived, so it’s no surprise that the team still needs to iron out the mode for a full release.

This is not the first time that Infinity Ward has taken to social media to confirm that a change to the game will take place. A few days ago, art director Joel Emslie took to Twitter to respond to a request for more 6v6 maps. Emslie responded saying the team was hard at work on that very request and that the development team has heard the fans loud and clear.

Right now seems to be a good time to jump into Modern Warfare, with the recent return of the fan favorite Gun Game mode along with the very interesting 1v1 Gunfight variation. Additionally, Activision announced that the next Double XP event would be taking place in Modern Warfare from January 10 at 10 a.m. PT until January 13 at 10 a.m. PT. Players who want to get in their preparations for before the event start still have some time before it kicks off.

As mentioned before, though Gun game has returned and replaced the recently added Grind playlist, it won’t be here for long. That means that the Grind playlist will probably return once Gun Game has come and gone. It seems that Infinity Ward is content with experimenting with the game’s available only game mode rotation in order to gauge player interest. Hopefully, it'll be able to find the game mode’s that players enjoy the most.
