It's been a big week for fans of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the long awaited season 2 has finally arrived. The new season brings a new battle pass to work through and plenty of new content including maps, game modes, operators and much more. However, fans were a bit surprised that the highly requested Battle Royale mode was left out of the announcement trailer and information. While Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to really confirm or deny the many rumors that have surfaced over the past few months but a new leak may have just confirmed everything.

The latest source of information comes from a user on the Call of Duty Modern Warfare subReddit who posted supposed keyart from the upcoming Battle Royale spinoff. Standing on top of a crashed helicopter is none other than the recently released character Ghost, surrounded by a team with the words Call of Duty Warzone above them. The post itself has since been deleted, though the information lives on in other forums and social media locations.

Other users have also seemingly confirmed the name, though the keyart used for Warzone appears to continually be taken down due to copyright strikes. One user in particular named Miguel Lozada goes one step further by saying Warzone will also be a standalone free-to-play game, believing the move to be a big game changer for the franchise. If true, this could position it to become a very strong competitor to other popular Battle Royale games like Apex Legends and Fortnite.

Adding legitimacy to this leak is a new classified game mode that has suddenly appeared on the main menu of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare alongside the standard options of Campaign, Co-Op, Multiplayer, and Store. Eagle eyed fans have also noticed a brief glimpse of an open battlefield at a ruined airport with players seemingly parachuting out of a plane with visible gas clouds in the distance and firefights happening all over. Naturally, people have started to piece together that a Battle Royale game mode is all but assured at this point.

Whatever the case may be, Activision and Infinity Ward definitely appear to be crafting some sort of new experience for players outside of the current Season 2 content package and roadmap. Considering all of the recent leaks that have happened in the past 24 hours, an announcement could perhaps be coming much sooner than later as the studio works to get out ahead of the speculation.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
