Battlefield 3 stepped into the ring this week and in two weeks time, it’s competitor in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will do the same, expected to double the sales of BF3. The Modern Warfare 3 launch trailer was released early and now Activision is letting the teams at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games detail some of the changes and additions coming the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise.
So far, we’ve seen a video explaining Modern Warfare 3’s Strike Packages, more information on the Call of Duty Elite service, including a video detailing its ‘Improve’ feature. Most recently, Robert Bowling walked us through the Prestige awards and today, a walkthrough of the game’s weapon proficiencies.
Players are familiar with the experience system in the Call of Duty games which allows players to level up their character and unlock new weapons, weapon mods, skins and more. In Modern Warfare 3, experience can be earned for specific weapons which opens up the unlocks based on use of that gun. Specific unlocks are available depending on the class of character the player plays, all adding to a more in-depth career for players to explore in their multiplayer journey, while also offering something different to experience upon prestige should the player choose to do so.
Infinity Ward Executive Producer Mark Rubin and Sledgehammer Games Co-Founder Michael Condrey explain:
Offering players a chance to upgrade their weapon of choice is the logical evolution of progression and unlocks for the CoD franchise – and something that’s also part of the Battlefield 3 unlock system. Where Battlefield has larger maps and vehicles, Call of Duty has more equipment and killstreaks – will we see more overlap in future titles from both series’?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases November 8, 2011 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
