When developing Modern Warfare 3, Infinity Ward is well aware of what needs to change and what needs to be relatively preserved in order to keep an experience that feels improved, but still familiar. While we have yet to hear anything in regards to specific changes being made to the game’s multiplayer, IW’s Robert Bowling may have dropped a small tease about one of the changes being made to the game’s explosions — or at the least the damage they inflict.
Specifically, Bowling revealed that Modern Warfare 3 will feature lower damage for explosions and that the game will provide players with certain equipment to protect from those explosions that do get too close for comfort.
The news from Bowling came in response to a Battlefield supporter’s claim that Modern Warfare 3 shouldn’t allow weapons like grenade launchers to insta-kill players if they have full health. Bowling could have easily let this Modern Warfare 3 detractor speak his mind, but he chose to respond with this:
In Multiplayer, its all about you and your gun, plus explosives have been lowered in damage and new anti-explosive equipment added.
Obviously being just a Twitter response to a fan question, this reveal from Bowling doesn’t shed any light as to how explosions have been “gimped” and what types of equipment will be available to protect against said “less powerful” explosions. Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops each provided ways in which players could avoid deadly damage from things like claymores or grenades, but Infinity Ward clearly has new ideas this time around.
While we might not know what Infinity Ward has working under the hood of Modern Warfare 3, next month’s Call of Duty XP, where the MW3 multiplayer will make its official debut, should give the best picture before the game’s release.
Activision will be broadcasting a vast majority of the day’s events, so don’t feel like you will miss out on any of the reveals or details — they will be coming to you as soon as they hit the attendees. Until then, it’s all speculation.
Do you think that Modern Warfare 3 needed to have its explosions “weakened?” What types of equipment would you like to see available in the way of perks or physical armor?
Modern Warfare 3 releases November 8, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
