For the loyalists who love their PC and want to play their AAA games on the best hardware available, Modern Warfare 3 will be making that possible. The big shooter of the holiday season will be sure to stir up plenty of fanfare and attraction, but unlike console gamers, can PC players run their copy of Modern Warfare 3 without issue? If you've been keeping up with your hardware, absolutely.
Infinity Ward's community strategist, Robert Bowling, took to the forums and compiled a list of answers important for any Modern Warfare 3 PC player. There he described facts of dedicated servers, remote controlling for servers, and what kind of settings can be tweaked, among other things.
Long story short, if your rig can run contemporary PC games you'll have no problem running MW3. Hopefully, there won't be anything close to the problems experienced by the last highly-touted PC shooter RAGE on day one, problems that have started to be fixed.
In terms of the online side dedicated servers will be present, but only allow unranked play. Steam will be fully integrated into Modern Warfare 3 and will be utilized for achievements, friends list, join-in-session play, and as a server browser.
Under the hood, the minimum system requirements for Modern Warfare 3 aren't anything too crazy and spectacular. All the same, here they are, just in case they catch you off guard.
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
OS: Windows® XP / Windows Vista® / Windows® 7
Processor: Intel® Coreâ„¢ 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenomâ„¢ X38750 processor or better
Memory: 16 GB free hard drive space / 2GB RAM
Video Card: Shader 3.0 or better 256 MB NVIDIA®GeForceâ„¢ 8600GT / ATI® Radeonâ„¢ X1950 or better
Sound Card: DirectX® 9.0C or later
Custom built PCs will have no problems running the game and Bowling also confirms the ability to tweak the graphics a bit to maximize your experience on the PC. When asked about the amount of graphic customization, Bowling gave some details:
You have a lot of graphic options, including enablingand disabling of new rendering features such as SSAO, you'll also be able to modify DOF, Shadows, Anti-Aliasing, Texture Resolution and more.
Outside of the technical aspects of the game, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have been releasing more information regarding the game portion of Modern Warfare 3, including the brand new Strike Package options geared to reward players of all styles. The cooperative Spec Ops mode has also received a pretty substantial overhaul, adding more modes of play, and not just being limited to the mission-based gameplay of its first appearance.
Infinity Ward is doing their best to impress fans of the series with new gameplay options, especially after the mixed variety of opinions of multiplayer in Modern Warfare 2. Everyone eventually learned to have a seething rage for 'Danger Close' and 'One Man Army,' so Bowling has confirmed that there will be changes made to the gameplay and that dying from explosives 80% of the time could be significantly reduced.
